| changeblog = stupid name |

CVS Commit + Weblog = Changeblog http://jeremy.zawodny.com/blog/archives/001075.html OMG! If you put "blog" in a word it becomes really hip!
Web + log = blog Mobile + blog = moblog Changelog + blog = changeblog
This is getting ridiculous.
A "changeblog" isn't even very impressive. We've been doing it for 4 years with LJ's changelog and also at fotobilder_cvs. I supposed we should've given it a stupid name and blogged about it everywhere and said how cool we were.

I say we take off and nuke the site from orbit. It's the only way to be sure.

but truly, this is ridiculous.
but i hear it's pretty common in history: the people who were there first very rarely get the credit. it's those who trumpeted themselves the most who do.

Most things I do don't even seem too "historic". But when I see somebody trumpet how important/monumental it is and give it a dumb name: irritating.

i was just thinking about this today when i was writing that mail today to the researcher talking about lj's shared journals vs communities. it didn't seem like anything at the time, just simple tweaks, but now i see people who Really Think about these sorts of things write stuff like "livejournal really got communities right". it's really weird in retrospect.

We blogged in 1994 with a simple cgi/perl script that let people post a running web log. If we had come up with the cool name maybe we would have started LJ and gotten famous? It's all in the name... =^)

Yeah, the first LiveJournal was like a page of perl.
So if Zilla automatically logged new bugs to a journal, would it be: 1. zillablog 2. bugblog 3. blogzilla 4. ziblog 5. ...?

Heh. :-)
It's at times like this that I wonder if you have a life, Brad. ;D Although, I must admit, "blog" is one of those words that are much weirder when said aloud. Others include "woot," "twat," "haxor," and "roxors your soxors" (the zeros replaced with the letter O so they look like real words, of course). But, as strange as it may be, "twat" is the most fun to say aloud. I don't know why, it's just so funny, weird sounding, yet awkwardly stimulating. O_O
Always wondered what the word "blog" meant to me, but now I know.
It's like shitting.

Heh. I get on a plane for New York and look what's waiting for my return. :-)
Brad, you're right. This isn't new. It caught my eye (as I mentioned in the post) because of the CVS/RSS connection, which I've played with at work.
As for the trackback, due to some complex MT stuff that I'm not gonna explain right there, there's a bit of a delay for TrackBacks being reflected on my content. I'll fix that someday, but I've got this damned book to finish. And stuff.
I need 36 hour days.

The idiocy of 'blog'. | (Link)
|
I've long thought the same thing regarding the word 'blog'. It really is just an absolutely horrible word. And anyway, what is wrong with diary/journal/log/memoirs/chronicles/etc? Does it really need a new word just because it's placed on the web? And if it does, can't we find a word that doesn't sound like we (literally) just pulled it out of our ass?
Wait, if you really think about it along the same lines of web + log, it would be change + log.. which would be.. GASP changelog.
The internet just got revolutionized. | |
