5.25" floppy drive? [Dec. 31st, 2006|05:27 pm]

Anybody have a 5.25" floppy drive they want to lend/give me? I found some old disks I want to image.

And are there any floppy ↔ USB cables, so I don't actually have to open up a computer to use it?

Or maybe a company in the Bay Area that does media imaging?

Update: I'm getting hooked up. Thanks!

Every 5.25" drive I've had has had a different connector to the 3.5" ones, so I expect you'd not only need a USB to floppy thing but also an adaptor for the old bulky connector to the new smaller one.

I've got some old computers with 5.25" floppy drives in them, but even ignoring the fact that I'm in completely the wrong continent they're also at my mum's place in the attic so I can't really get at them right now. They probably don't work anyway. :)

People selling some on eBay.

As for the cables, look at this site, they are making all kinds of USB adapters, maybe one will fit your 5.25 drive.

I pretty sure I have one here in CA, and possibly might even have the cable to hook it up. Otherwise it might be time for a run to the Weirdstuff Warehouse

I have one I was about to throw away (Or did I throw it away already?).

It's not really pretty but it should still work. has your name on it if you want it
