Wildcards in Google [Mar. 16th, 2007|12:36 pm]
Brad Fitzpatrick
Holy shit, Google supports wildcards?
"i once put a * up my *"
In other news: Google maps now has mass transit markers (for SF, at least, not Moscow), and building outlines. Loving it.

"I once put a wrapped cigar up my ass while having phone sex"

Disturbing.

you know, 2 of those are substantially different in nature from all the others. (Excluding the howard stern references I'd expect that from)

I'm curious about a different detail. When I put the mouseover your link, it points to google.IE. Were you using that domain or does something in the internet translate the link to a local version?

i was playing around with tor awhile back and noticed this happening (i was getting google.de) so google apparently does check the nationality of the IP the request is coming from. tor was routing my connection through germany, apparently. it really freaked me out for a second until i remembered i was proxying. not sure if anything similar might apply in your situation.

IIRC Exalead supports regexes.

This is my new favorite web feature. Next you'll tell me I can use REs in my googles.

I love the building outlines. Apparently they're user-contributed via Google Earth's 3D editor or something. Which means that Second Life is colonizing First Life. And it's only a matter of time before someone replaces the Transamerica Pyramid with a giant flower that shits penises.

I noticed the subway stations for NYC. It's fantastic. :)

But Portland has much better support at Google Transit (which IIRC was even codenamed "Portland").

And ranges too. That's how someone found a bunch of credit card numbers :)
