It's May... where's my DRM-free iTunes? [May. 1st, 2007|08:59 am]

According to this press release, DRM-free music from EMI-signed artists is available in May. It's May... where's my music? I want to go give iTunes a bunch of money to inflate stats, show my love, vote with my wallet, etc.

They give me files I can use wherever, whenever ... I give them money. That's a good deal for both parties.

Zune won't even play PlaysForSure stuff, right? Microsoft switches it DRM and abandons all old DRM suckers. Love it.

Nothing much happened Friday... it got late and I went to bed because I had to get up really early to drive to Bellingham.

You're right on the playsForSure stuff. I can imagine there's some legal BS explaining why MS can't do it (all of the online store & hardware partners, etc). I do like the zune pass subscription stuff though, that's awesome. I don't plan on ever buying tracks from itunes/zune/any online store unless it's lossless. I'm picky.

256kbps AAC is essentially lossless.

On mp3 players, sure, but not on my home stereo.

shoot me. My old iriver had optical out, so at least that way I could use my receiver's dac rather than the headphone out. But even that sounded horrible compared to a (below average) cd player.

They aren't all as horrible as it would seem. :)

DRM-free doesn't mean you can use it wherever whenever. Well, you can, but you may not.

BTW, "in May" usually means "May 31st. Probably".

Zune can play AAC, right? Or have I missed the bit where being DRM free was important? ;-)
