I don't know about you, but I'm ready for the Large Hadron Collider to be fired up already, if only because I'm sick of every single science article ending with, "But we don't know.... we'll have to wait and see what the LHC tells us!"

And here I was trying to figure out which of HLC, LCH, or CHL was a "really unfortunate porn title"...

Thank you for the mental image of what a Large Hardon Collider would actually look like.

It's somewhat ambiguous. Is it a collider of large hardons, or a large collider of hardons?

Could be worse: the new version of Ubuntu is named Hardy Hardon.

(er, I mean Heron)

Haha, totally thought the same thing about that!

I can't wait either, I need this thing online so it'll prove my theory about my old boss being made of quantum evil. When they break down some quarks I guarantee you they'll find little versions of my old boss, being totally mean to all the other particles!

Maybe they'll find out how to make black-hole launchers.

My first thought was: large hardon collider... damn that's gotta suck.

Good thing it's not a project here in the States.

I figure they're probably drawing straws to figure out who pushes the ON button, in case they end up creating a black hole that destroys the earth...

Although if it did do that, it wouldn't matter who pushed the button, I guess.

Me too. Every new TOE that's popped up recently seems to have a chunk in it of "We're hoping that when the LHC comes online it'll be powerful enough to show up Omega particles, which would prove our theory is correct!"

"But we don't know.... we'll have to wait and see what the LHC tells us!"

I think I will start adding this to the end of my fortune cookies for a while.

I just want to see the result of safety concerns such as:

"Any black holes created by the LHC are not expected to be stable and will not accrete matter."
