seems like a lot of work

It works out well. I only need to pay for one taxi overall, I can get to the bar quickly and not worry about parking (taxi pickups at my house suck, and parking sucks at night), and I get a (downhill) bike ride in too.

Enquiring minds need to know

At what point in the timeline did you make this diagram?

Re: Enquiring minds need to know

Drunk may imply bad art skills, but bad art skills doesn't imply drunk.

I was totally sober when I made the above diagram.

That sounds like a total waste of opportunity to be drunk!

you totally stole that diagram from... TCP/IP Illustrated, W. Richard Stevens?

Not really... maybe indirectly? I do have the book, but isn't that just a common style? I drew it from memory.

If the bar is downhill from your house, it seems like you could just ride the bicycle in the first place.

Is the slope of the arrows intended to show approximate latency?

Yes, I tried to get the slopes right. Motorcycle's faster than car, which is faster than bicycle.

I _could_ take a bike the whole way, but then a) bike would get stolen (maybe?), and b) I'd need to ride my bike home (straight up a hill, and might want to go with other people to other bars, etc ... a bike's a hinderance)

I was thinking you could recover the bike the next day with the car.

But then, you'd lose the opportunity to zoom around in the motorcycle! I can begin to see the careful analysis that has gone into your existing plan.

they need to make cars that will accommodate bikes.

I don't think there's a "maybe" at all about bike theft. Look at poor jwz, how many has he gone through?

Yes, your bike will get stolen. My bike got stripped at 16th and Mission, leaving just the frame, which is basically worthless.

You are either driving drunk or not really drinking at the bar, sir. Or else enlisting help with e.g. the drive home.

I thought from the text at the top that this was all one night, but I now see that the stuff in the bottom half is to get the motorcycle home the next morning.

How does bicycle fit in car? Bike rack? folding bike?

Just take off the front wheel. And seats fold down. I could probably fit two bikes in there... it's huge.

I Was Obviously A Very Lazy Drunk

Even looking at the diagram exhausts me.

Drink at home and invite friends over would be my solution. Or drink enough and you can create incredible lifelike imaginary friends through the wonders of Photoshop in your drunken stupor.

Or switch to hallucinogens and skip the middleman entirely!

I think you nailed it. Many people have tried what looked like an optimization, but found that it's lossy.

Alternate

For a few reasons it's important that this starts with the motorcycle.

if you just drove your car to the bar at night, then the sequence would be cut to "Taxi home -> sleep -> bicycle to the bar -> bicycle in car to go home". as long as you are willing can spend a few extra minutes to find a parking spot. eliminates one extra round trip.

I know! But parking at night sucks so much... and motorcycle's so much faster to get to the bar.
