The winner of the worst permalinks ever goes to.... Digg!
Another Digg user, David Recordon, has sent you a shout. You can read it at the following URL:

http://digg.com/users/bradfitzpatrick#send-shout

Cheers,

Plaxo doesn't fail from the permalink angle, but is equally as useful as Digg's email.
Joseph Smarr commented on your Pulse event: "David Recordon posted on Twitter."

Read it here: http://pulse.plaxo.com/pulse/events/show/34692867

Thanks!

Aren't shouts the same as emails, basically?

Should emails get permalinks?

Yeah, shouldn't there be a .asp in there somewhere?

Sorry if I'm just dumb and don't understand which part is the worst, but what would be the ideal one?

I see several things that can be bad or good:

  • send-shout instead of received-shouts

  • # instead of /

  • /users/ instead of /

First one is, obviously the worst of all three, but is that it? I'm probably missing context / sarcasm not being a native speaker.

I'll really appreciate your help understanding if it's technical thing or language/culture thing that is not making it obvious for me.

It's not just you. I only noticed the first issue, too. I've no problem with the other two items.

Brad is referring to the fact that this URL is to "the current shouts" (that is, a resource that changes over time) rather than to the specific shout that the email notification is regarding. Therefore if you refer back to that email a year from now it will no longer be a link to the correct thing.

Yes, my bad - I missed the most important part ;) at least it's not English.

Thanks.

Brad,

Thanks for pointing this out. A better "permalink" does exist... for example http://digg.com/users/bradfitzpatrick/friends/shoutsin/5141606

We will look into updating the email.

Re: Thanks.

I just checked in the fix. The updated emails should start going out after our next push.
