Good Decisions [Nov. 22nd, 2007|04:10 am]
[Tags|, ]

It's 10:30 pm. You have a cab picking you up at 4:30 am, for a 6:30 am flight, with a dog, on super-busy travel day.

Do you... ?

a) Sleep. You'll need it.
b) Hit the bars until 2:45 am.

(Whatever you choose, you chose correctly.)

Looking forward to sleeping on the plane.

Facebook [Jun. 28th, 2007|10:23 am]

Facebook just keeps getting better. Totally, totally loving it.

As part of my research to sync all social networking graphs between sites I wrote a little one-off thingy to add all my LJ friends to my Facebook, but I'm sure it missed most of you. If you didn't get a friend request from me, plz to be being my friend. Facebook's "findfriends.php" kinda sucks. Better than LJ, but could do a lot more.

Going to write Perl bindings for Thrift next, only tangentially related, but it'd be a good way to learn. Then an LJ/Vox Facebook App, using WWW:::Facebook::API, probably.

Great Day [Aug. 19th, 2006|05:07 pm]

How to best explain the awesomeness that is today?

It's been like 10 or 12 weeks since I had a weekend at home with no plans, obligations, traveling, etc.

Today I:

-- slept in

-- went to the monthly Boston Terrier Meetup up the block from us. dozens of Bostons. pure craziness.

-- opened and dealt with about 25 envelopes. bills, statements, etc. generally cleaned my office up.

-- helped Dina clean her office

-- upgraded Dina's laptop to Dapper from Hoary or whatever was before

-- moved Dina's printer downstairs, and verified it worked from Ubuntu

-- cleaned the garage with Dina (mostly Dina)

-- installed a new garage opener button next to the garage door. I didn't have bell wire or patience for soldering, so I have two wires twisted together and duct-taped to the ceiling, wrapping around pipes and stuff, then into a breadboard that's duct-taped to the wall. Out of that is a push button. High-tech. I need to hookup my garage-door-opener-from-computer again that I had mostly going at the old house (except the wiring kept falling out of the garage motor before and I knew we were moving, so never cared to do it right). Then I can open the garage from my phone when I'm biking home.

-- got a new tripod because I lost the mounting thing for my old tripod. called them, they were closing in 5 minutes, and raced down and made it before they closed.

Productive day.

Tubin' [Sep. 25th, 2005|12:43 pm]
[Tags|, ]

Went innertubin' down the Russian River yesterday with Dina, Evan, Erin, Tessa, and 6 other folks, mostly from Macromedia (Evan's roommates and friends).

Pretty much the coolest thing I know of, floating down a river/rapids in a tube, with a cooler of beer on its own tube in tow, finding three rope swings and using them all.......

Yeah, that's what every weekend should be.

I'm on a panel tonight at 5pm at Webzine about "$elling out: etc, etc, doing things you love". After that, drinks with [info]chuck, who's in town.

Now that the TV season's started, it's time to get my MythTV box finally setup. The PC-HDTV 3000 drivers have now been in the Linux mainline for months, so it should be less painful this time around.

Lake Shasta [Aug. 29th, 2005|08:57 pm]
[Tags|, , , ]

I spent Friday noon - Sunday midnight off computers and email and instead partying on Lake Shasta.

Much swimming, diving, tubing, crashing, climbing, wood gathering and log rolling was had by all, leading to a bunch of very sore bodies today. Whitaker and I were both limping around work together looking like pathetic invalids.

Scuba pics [Jul. 23rd, 2005|06:18 pm]

Pictures from today:

Fun stuff. David and Whitaker were good buddies. Exhausting. Standing around in the sun in thick wetsuits and full gear waiting for slow members of the team is fucking brutal... so hot. But later I learned just to monitor the pace of the slowest member(s) of the group and not get dressed/loaded any faster than them.

All "skills" tests today... flushing masks, losing regulator and recovering (4 drills), running out of air (2 drills), emergency ascents, replacing weights/BC in water, etc, etc.

Nothing fun like following pretty fishies around. Tomorrow, probably.

Though we did see lots of starfish, and Whitaker and I saw a stingray.

Did two dives... first 30 feet, second about 35 or 40. (I forgot to check Whitaker's depth gauge... my rental didn't have one)

Off to Mexican food in a bit here.
