| Adventurous Weekend |
[Mar. 16th, 2008|11:21 pm] |
Before I fall asleep, I'll try to recap the awesomeness that was this weekend.
Friday: -- kinda short day at work, due to floor reconfiguration/moves. -- went to Ask a Scientist's "Puzzle Pi Day" event, to a packed cafe with a ton of teams of up to 6 people, working on 5 problems for 10 minutes each. I think we tied for 3rd or 4th or something. Some great problems. -- drinking in the Mission at Velvet Cantina.
Saturday: -- brunch with friends at Home. -- bike ride with Beau across the Golden Gate, and up to the top of the Marin Headlands. Fucking Amazing. Totally need to do that ride again, and often. So beautiful and awesome. -- epic bar hopping night: Flickr bday party at 111 Minna, Greg Stein's bday party at Dada, then Bruno's, then El Rio for another bday party.
Sunday: -- car recovery bike ride -- drove w/ dan_erat and daveman692 to Oakland to watch Lisa's season premier Roller Derby game. brought my SLR and got hundreds of great shots, mostly of people wiping out. to be posted later. -- went to Playa Azul with the crew for ceviche, tequila shots, and margaritas. -- went to Billy Goat Hill for more margaritas, beers, photos, and swinging on the rope. -- lisa, dan_erat, and daveman692 decided we needed to play Rock Band. I've never played it, or even seen it. This required buying a PS3 and Rock Band. Also ordered Little Star while we were in Best Buy, so it was ready. Lisa recommended we walk out of the store with our $600+ worth of electronics and ignore the security guard's request to see our receipt because legally they can't stop you. I'd never thought of this, but liked the idea. Dan said he did it all the time. It was very liberating (but not as much as when I flew on a plane without identification). We got a little scuff from the guy as he repeatedly asked for our receipt and we just kept walking away. Really, it's just a bad store layout. -- pizza and Rock Band, now also including Lina and her parents from Sweden. I couldn't help myself and had to play Boten Anna when I picked them up. But fortunately they knew it and liked it. :)
Now: -- Sleep |

| Evening devoid of lovin' |
[Feb. 15th, 2008|01:55 am] |
Despite the best wishes & recommendations of my friends, I didn't go out and get laid by single, lonely girls tonight. (sorry)
Instead, I crashed a neighbor's '80s Say Anything party, by recommendation of a friend that never showed. But I ran into a bunch of people I knew from work and elsewhere (small city). After a couple hours, left the party for an hour or so for a drunken bicycle ride into the mission to visit dan_erat, his girlfriend Lina, 3 kernel hackers (Linux, Solaris, and OS X), and others before returning to the '80s party later on my way home.
In any case, I'm home now in my '80s clothes and listening to Superunknown really loud which, while not '80s, is still very awesome. |

| Vodka, Lacrosse, Neighbors, Hookups, ... small world |
[Feb. 9th, 2008|04:29 pm] |
Last night I was providing post-drinking, post-movie taxi service for Becky and Dima (both of whom had fallen asleep on the couch during a movie after Zeitgeist).
As Becky and I are leaving the garage, two people stumble across the street towards me, a guy holding the hugest bottle of Belvedere Vodka I'd ever seen, and a girl carrying two lacrosse sticks.
Him: "Hi neighbor! I'm your neighbor! Want some vodka?" Her: "I'm a professional Lacrosse player... see?" Him: "Do you live here? I'm your neighbor." Her: "I partied at your house, remember? I was here for Beau's 30th birthday party." Him: "Yeah, she says she partied here... I'm your neighbor. Want some vodka?" Her: "I had to get my lacrosse sticks." Him: "What's your name? Let me get your number, I'm not gay or anything. I'm your neighbor. Let me just get your number. HEY!!! YOU HAVE AN iPHONE TOO!" Him: "Yeah, so I just met this girl tonight and we hit it off so I'm taking her home." Him: "Hey, who owns this place? You? Oh cool. And you're the one with the motorcycle too?" Her: "We have to go play lacrosse now." Me: "Indoors? Impressive. Goodnight. We'll have to party sometime. I'll call you guys next time we have a party here."
etc, etc...
In conclusion:
- It's a small world.
- Seems like I have a cool neighbor, Christian, that I never knew about. I like meeting my neighbors.
- There might be a huge bottle of vodka still sitting on my steps, if he forgot to pick it up. I should go look.

Anybody want to go out tonight (and/or tomorrow) for some bday drinking? |

Back from a week in the desert. Holy shit... good times. I wouldn't even know where to start with the stories.
I'll have to do a bulleted list of crazy/awesome shit I saw, as well as random story snippets. But I'll do that later. For now... sleep. |

| Cooking |
[Jun. 21st, 2007|06:52 am] |
Wednesday night's "Cooking-at-Brad's" resumed in earnest last night following the month-long hiatus caused by my vacation.
For once I was organized and got recipes and shopping lists (and shopping) done beforehand, most of it Tuesday night, so we could focus on cooking, rather than freaking out about ingredients.
Much food was made: shrimp linguine (served separately), chicken for non-shrimp eaters, Béchamel for non-meat eaters, salad, garlic bread, steamed vegetables, 6 bottles of wine (admittedly, not cooking :))
I was quite pleased with the turnout. While some nights have been as small as just Dan and me, and as large as 16 or so people, I think 10 people like last night is about the right size. Much more and I need more/larger pots & pans. But I think I do anyway.
I also need a garlic press. This comes up regularly, and I keep forgetting to buy one. And more measuring cups/spoons, as the weird mix I currently have makes us do too much math and too many unit conversions. |
