livejournal requests [Jun. 18th, 2000|10:43 pm]
Brad Fitzpatrick
last hour I've been working on LiveJournal .... also been taking requests from livejournal users over email and seeing how fast I can implement them ... pretty fun. made the export feature and the quick links bar (only visible if you're logged in). "That was super-impressive response time action. Hats off to you. :)" ..... "You thug you." Ah yea'.

.

I guess I should start out by saying that I'm not really a wood nymph. I just dress myself like one for special occasions like Halloween and going to the place where I assemble light bulbs every day.

Hmmmm .... that's an idea. Not something I'd write myself, though ... probably buy some commercial package.

Re:

also... Im not sure if you can because im a lazy bastard and I didnt feel like checkin it out... being able to edit the quick links bar would be cool, but not complicated like editing styles, you could make a form where people could add friends names (maybe a dropdown menu under friends) or links to whatever on livejournal... maybe even to freevote booths they are watching, but this would be a step to the merging of freevote and livejournal and freevote is the devil, freevote is the UFO that crashes thanks to BML.

OUTLOOK EXPRESS 5

I know you are in the "let's make new things mode", but I've been having some problems with Outlook Express 5 with Live Journal. I have it hooked up to check my hotmail and when I get my Live Journal responces, the responce box is there and all, but when I type in it, at random times it messes up when I hit the space bar and it will first not register the space bar and if I hit anyother key it goes to the next message. What is weird about it is I can't find a pattern when it happens. I can write 7 lines and nothing happens, or I could be on my first line and it freaks! So I don't know if that can be fixed....
And I just want to say, and even though I am sure you get this a lot and it might not mean much, but I really do think you have a lot of talent Brad and I think Live Journal and the other work you do is great!

Re: OUTLOOK EXPRESS 5

Nobody's complained about it yet, but I get the same damn bugs .... nothing I can really do about it. I thought it'd work when I programmed it (and it does, sometimes), and it works in Netscape and Mozilla, but Microsoft sucks a big fat cock and can't program, so we're left with the problem. I've found it helps if you double-click the message and don't use the form in the preview pane.....

Re: OUTLOOK EXPRESS 5 (and outlook)

i also have found that if you double-click the message and 'do not' use the 'preview pane' that things seem to go pretty well. for now, my 'solution' is don't use the preview pane...

!!

hey brad, i just found the "ability-to-delete-my-comments-to-other-people's-posts-if-i-am-logged-in-feature". i knew i could delete my own journal entries, but just found the ability to delete comments. i knew you could do it! (course, it could have been there for a while, since i am rarely logged in...) what's my point? my point is good job brad!

Re: !!

Read the FAQ ... not going to do it. That could lead to confusion.

Re: !!

Not to mention the fact adding the ability to edit someone's comments could lead to someone abusing that feature. So what if the comment has typos.

Private Posts

Are you still going to make icons for differentiating public/private posts? Every time I write a private post I get all panicky that others (the wrong people) might see it and double-check by logging out, refreshing, and then logging back in. I'm such a freak.

Re: Private Posts

This is unrelated to the private posts post, but I've noticed something with my version of the LJ program. Sometimes after I post an entry and the thing minimizes, my old post text will still be there when I go to type up another entry, as if the first entry didn't go through.

Re: Private Posts

What version of the client?

And does the entry go through when that happens?

Re: Private Posts

I use version 1.2.6, and I believe the posts do go through. Seeing the old text there makes you a little nervous that it didn't go through though, you know?

Re: Private Posts

Weird. It should do that .... I haven't seen it. But I'll look at the source some more and see if I can't figure it out....

Re: Private Posts

It doesn't happen with all posts though; its happens randomly. I've noticed that it happens more with my longer posts.
