Redesign ... [Jun. 21st, 2000|01:44 am]
Brad Fitzpatrick
Redesigned the main LiveJournal page .... of course, thanks to BML you can still use the old version by setting your scheme preference: new, classic, or light.

Re:

Damme.. Brad, it was not redesigned... you simply made a duplicate design of your homepage [bradfitz.com].. Honestly, the design kinda suck compared to freevote.com. Just a comment..

Re:

What's NetPositive's user-agent string? I can make "classic" be the default when NetPositive is detected....

Re: Noooooooo!!

Here's what I think.

I thought the previous LiveJournal design was great... even for being regular HTML. You could easily spruce it up and use CSS to separate the design and content elements for it, since it was only text and a little background, but not all browsers support CSS, and you've done a good job of not making the regular HTML markup not tag soup.

I really don't like the "new" design. It isn't really new anyway, you just ripped off the design of your personal site. I think the colors are terrible, I think that the gradient looks very amateurish, and I think that the little round arrow image up top really looks terrible, and is in dire need of antialiasing or something.

Overall, it just looks bad.

Please, I beg of you, go back!

Sincerely,
Brad Bower

P.S. The green and blue alternation highlighting on the comments pages is also horrifically ugly.

Re: Noooooooo!!

The look is easily modified... but don't you like the easier access to the various tools?

As for the top graphic... yeah it's ugly...but it was worse before! http://www.bradfitz.com/ <---see it here

I have some ideas for a look that I'm gonna float past brad later today...

Re: Noooooooo!!

The green and blue is now gone. I agree that sucked. :)

What do you think of this look that somebody made?

Hooray!!

I don't really care what it looks like, I'm just glad to see the functionality. It got really old having to follow such long paths to find things before (like editing a style... that took like 57 clicks to get to the page)

Design

I bet if you COPIED freevote.com design to livejournal.com .. the effect will be better than the current design.. At least, freevote looks pretty nice in design.. but I wonder if your design company allows this :-)
