I'm not a redneck, yo.

In defense of the midwest. I live near Cincinnati, OH. For the most part, we don't say shit like "Y'all". That shit comes from all of the people who moved from Kentucky about 2 generations ago. For instance, my grandparents are all from Hazard, KY. They speak like rednecks (though I love them dearly.. ;-) Then my mom & dad aren't that bad... and I'm normal. It just sort of filters out. However, if you go into the middle of a trailor park or something, you're probably going to find some "Y'all" speakers.

Northern Midwest isn't that bad. The worst are Kentucky, Tennessee, Alabama, all that shit. My dad lives in Alabama and he never said Y'all in Ohio, but he just decided to start saying it to fit in in Alabama. Heh. Also, in Alabama, you can buy a concealed weapon license for $16, every family has at least one pickup truck, and a good number of trucks have gun racks in the rear window. I'm thinking THAT's what you guys normally think of when you think of the midwest? Cincinnati is coo', yo.

This whole tangent reminds me, when I first met Brad, I was debating whether or not I should go in speaking with a horrendous redneck accent (which comes easily to me, if I try... scary). But then I decided with the whole "first impression" thing... nah, probably not best to make him think I'm a redneck. Although I'm sure it would have been funny as hell if I could've kept a straight face. Heh.

I could go on about this shit forever. In short, there are rednecks around here, but at least where I live, the redneck population in a minority. Now, when I lave for Alabama Friday, that will change. Anyway, I need to shut up now.

Re: I'm not a redneck, bwah

wut th hale ya talkin bout bwah? anybody kin talk purty like them thar boys from warshington. But kint nobody get da correct mixture of southern dialects that we haves up neer trenton without bein born into it. I gives you 1 example:
Orange is pronounced Oi-enge, it is very different from most southern drawls, it has a twist of boston, some georgia, and a little bayou. For you city folk you just gotta hear it to know da diffrence

Its all culture. and them thar people frum warshington talk all purty but they aint got no culture like us hillfolk.

Yall city folk just go and listen to dem dar prank calls and try and trace the culture from the voices, the subtle inflections can tell you alot about family history. I feel sorry for you, you have been raped of your family history.

Where About?

Which cornfield in Iowa? Unless you're in Des Moines or Cedar Rapids, most national ISPs don't offer access...

Of course, Rural Connect out of Minnesota does offer access in some of the other areas...
