Consumerism & 20.5. [Aug. 5th, 2000|10:29 pm]
Brad Fitzpatrick
Today's a great day. Amazing what sleep does for both the body and spirit one's mood.

Blythe and I went to Costco and I bought stuff... Birkenstocks, new pillows (very comfy), and 4 DVDs: Boiler Room, Entrapment, My Cousin Vinny, and The Beach. We then went to U Village and I was going to buy some sunglasses at Sunglass Hut but they all sucked (felt cheap and plastic, and the lenses were terrible) and at $140, screw it ... I'll find some good glasses before I pay $140 for them. I thought they were going to be like $70 or $80 ... $140 seems kinda ridiculous for something I'm invariably going to lose/destroy in a few months time. Anyone have recommendations on cool sunglasses?

After Costco we went to Golden Gardens and hung out for awhile, looking for Adam who was supposedly there somewhere breathing fire. Didn't find him, but did enjoy the park ... very beautiful. Perfect party/bbq/swimming/frisbee place ... can't believe I'd never heard about it before. I'm going to be there every weekend come September when I'm here for good.

OTHER BIG NEWS!! Today is my half birthday ... normally that isn't special, but today's my 20.5 half birthday ... 6 more months until I can legally buy & drink alcohol in the United States. Woo-hoo. :)

Sunglasses...

If you pay more than $30 for a pair of sunglasses and you live in Seattle most of the time, you are INSANE.

And the grief you get when you lose/break a $100+ pair of sunglasses isn't worth it.

Who needs to be legal?

Who needs to be legal? I'm 17 now, and when I turn 19 (legal age in canaduh), I'll feel no different then than I do now *L*

Re: Who needs to be legal?

Who needs to be legal? Me, if I want to go buy alcohol in this relatively conservative country.

Re: Who needs to be legal?

United States? Relatively Conservative? Uh, no. In the land of being able to buy beer at gas stations and 7-11's, you'd think it'd be harder to acquire alcohol here, where you can only buy from licenced beer and wine stores and liquor stores, than from the US. heh.

Order online

Just go to an online store, select the beer you want, add to your cart, checkout, pay with your father's credit card and within 20 min, a delivery man knocks at your door, you open, tell him your dad is not around ( you can skip this if the delivery guy happens to be younger then you ), pick up the goods, and BINGO, you get yourself a carton full of beer / alcoholic drink.

Re: Who needs to be legal?

I thought they changed the laws in Canada so that after a certain date, you had to be 21 to buy alcohol.. was I misinformed?

Re: Who needs to be legal?

They did change the laws about the drinking age, but it's a grandfather law, so anyone born 1980 or before can drink up there at 19. Legally, anyone born after has to be 21, but no one checks ID up there, even in the gov't run liquor stores.

Golden Gardens

Golden Gardens is a great place to hang out and have a bonfire, but just be forewarned that there is no alcohol allowed--even when you're 21.

Being of legal age to purchase alcohol is nice, I remember the first time I was carded.

When I was 17-18, I remember going to the liquor store and when I brought my bottle of Jack Daniels up to the check out counter the clerk asked the other clerk in the store this question: "What does ABC mean". The other clerk responded: "Always Bring Cash! It really means "Alcohol Beverage Control". Damn near scared me to death! I was the only customer in the store at the time so I guess they decided to play with me.

Congratulations on your 20.5 birthday! Just remember in 6 months, and when you illegally consume alcohol before then, to never drink and drive. It's not worth it, not only are you endangering your life and the life of others; but it is a major hassle when you get arrested. Lawyer fees, insurance price increases...........

If you go to Manhattan and walk down broadway, I garuntee you can get some fake Okleys for $10. the quality's pretty close... I dunno if they're worth anything, but you can get just about anything from those street Vendors. It rocks.

Re:

Oh god, last time I was in DC, there were guys every 10 feet selling foakleys. Then whenever it started raining, the same guys would go to their trunks, and get out umbrella hats. Pretty funny.

Aquarians RULE!

Wow, Brad, I should have known you were an Aquarian by your creativity and flair for life! I celebrate my birthday on Jan. 27th, so I always enjoy meeting another Aquarian. Thanks for making LiveJournal. It's a really unique idea. :-)

Happy 1/2 Birthday

My 1/2 Birthday will be in 5 days! Except I'm past the stage of looking forward to birthdays. The only good thing about this coming birthday..insurance rates go down. The joys of being 25. w00t!
