Good book [Aug. 29th, 2000|03:58 pm]
Brad Fitzpatrick

Just finished reading Stormy Weather... a very fun read. It's no literary masterpiece, but who cares... it's well written and has a lot of funny stuff ... I love how well all the characters and subplots tie together. Usually when I read books like this a few little subplots line up and it works fine, but this book has so much interwoven stuff it's just funny sometimes.

Basic plot summary of the book: a hurricane rips through Florida and criminals/looters/con artists are all out looking to make a buck, some people get kidnapped, a newlywed leaves her husband on their honeymoon, etc, etc....

I give it two thumbs up .... :-P

Heh. Closing my underline flag...

Carl Hiaasen is the machine, yo. The first of his books I ever read was Lucky You and I'm still very fond of it to this day (if you want to borrow it in your newfound Seattle residency, you're welcome to). He always writes about Florida...

There's a book he worked on with a bunch of other native Floridian authors (Dave Barry and Elmore Leonard included) that was absolutely hysterical. It's called Naked Came the Manatee and it's a sort of "pass the story" kind of novel -- each author wrote a chapter and then passed it on to the next writer. Very funny. Then again, anything involving the head of Fidel Castro is funny.

When I get up there I'll have to borrow it ... I intend to start reading again. I stopped for quite some time.
