Fax machine [Jan. 18th, 2001|01:58 pm]
Brad Fitzpatrick
Frustrated by Seattle traffic and parking while trying to get to a Kinko's, I said 'fuck it' and went out and bought myself a fax machine and calling card finally. Class is in 30 minutes ... will I make it? I have to send a fax first.

You know, places like Best Buy and Office Max make a fortune off of people like you. :)

Damnit, you guys have Best Buy out there? I get so freakin' confused!!! I never know what I can mention to certain people because I don't know what stores are WHERE... I think LiveJournal needs to provide a solution for this or something.

You've never heard of Kroger, America's largest grocery store chain, but I be you've got Radio Shack, or do you? If I were to mention a Schlotzky's Deli in a post, would you know what I was talking about? Grrrrrrrrrrrrrr. Stupid localism. (Oooh, I learned that word in POL 141 :-)

We've got Schlotzky's Deli in northern Illinois, but no Kroger's. We've got Jewel, Dominick's, Eagel, etc, though ;)

No Lowe's, either.

How about Meijer, K-Mart, WalMart, Applebee's? These companies travel pretty well north/south, but I've found that there are drastic changes if you go too far east/west.

Now, the most important place: Anyone ever heard of Gold Star Chili or Skyline Chili? I think they're only in the Cincinnati area and Florida (because everyone from Cincinnati retires to Florida). Better yet, anyone ever eaten this stuff? It's da bomb.

How about: Don Pablos? That place also kicks ass.

What are your movie theaters called? Do they have cool names, or do they just call them "cinema 10" like around here? :-)

I think there may be a Meijer or two somewhere around Chicagoland, but I don't think they do too well. When I say one or two, I mean one or two ;) The more north you go, the more rare they become. I can't even think of where one would be, providing they aren't all out of business.

There is a good ammount of Wal-Marts, and a good ammount of K-Marts towards the city. It seems as if K-Mart does well in the city, and Wal-Mart out here in the suburbs. (The city being Chicago.)

We have a bunch of Applebee's around here too. Out of all those Applebees-like grill places, Chilli's seems to be the most abundant. TGI Fridays' and stuff like that is around here too.

There is no Skyline Chili or Gold Star Chilis around here that I know of ;( It must be a local thing to Ohio and Florida, like you said. That always happens: ever been to Boston? They have this really good place called Legal Seafood all over, and they've been saying they are opening in Chicago "soon" for a few years now.

And yes, we have Best Buy, CompUSA, Circuit City, etc but not Fry's :)

Any other chains I should talk about? Hardware stores? :)

Yeah, I know the Chili is local, because it's called "Cincinnati Style Chili." :-)

We have TGI Fridays, etc... I have a friend at college in Boston, I'll ask her about the seafood place.

What are your gas station chains?

For hardware, we have: Lowe's, Home Depot, Builder's Square, some others I'm forgetting.

Do you guys have Flea Markets???

Actually, Kroger is now the parent company for Quality Food Center (QFC) and Fred Meyer here in the northwest. The first Best Buy that I have ever seen in Seattle opened about 3 months ago.
