Yeah... my Dad always tries to pull that one on me. Who said that anyway? Thomas Jefferson?

Yeah, I'd probably go to bed early too if all I had to do was try and shock myself with a kite all day. Hehehe

Re:

trivial.

.... if you want an address like http://34.23.204.283/

getting a domain name for it would be a little more involved.

you'd have to register it and then find name servers for it (I can run that for you)

if you want, go register one (I recommend marcuso's website... http://www.domainmonger.com/) and then when it asks you for name servers, enter ns1.bradfitz.com and ns2.bradfitz.com

For a free alternative I'd recommend using dhs.org. (I use it for the web server hosted on my cable connection)

yea, Im getting a domain name. I'm guessing that the name servers is where I keep all my shit too right? If that's the case I dont want to inconvenience you...I'm sure there is a way to run it straight off of my extra box on my cable modem. That would probably be better too because I really want to force myself to learn linux.
But any more advice would be cool.

no, you don't store stuff on the nameservers... they just map your domain name to your IP address.

call me and i'll explain it all if you want.

everybody else here has been suggesting you use some free dns provider, but i suggest against that, since i'm willing to do it, and those free places usually they have weird restrictions and rules.

I use darktech.org for DNS, 'cause that's a cyber sounding name. :)

Proverb, huh? I got one for ya...

"A little sleep, a little slumber, a little folding of the hands to rest, and poverty will come on you like a bandit, and scarcity like an armed man."

Proverbs 6:10-11

That seems to haunt me every time I start to nod off at my keyboard.
