uswest's name servers are down, so i can't log into anything too quickly, because ssh likes to reverse your IP before letting you in.... which means i have to wait an ungodly amount of time for the DNS lookup to time out. stupid us west. worse: openssh tries to reverse three times.... once when connecting, once right after key exchange before logging in, and once after your authenticated.... aahghhghhah

but, this amused me. haha.

Re: DNS

I am just guessing, but probably brad has a uswest IP address and therefore it is their DNS servers that are responsible for the PTR records for that bunch of IP addresses, and thus he has no choice in the matter.

Re: DNS

But we all do have a choice in the matter, we can cary our
own authoritative reverse entries for machines on our own networks...

Re: DNS

US West is now Qwest....

sorry, i couldn't help it :P

i work for Qwest here in MPLS, for their NDLEC, business DSL group, http://www.highspeedibs.com

i know the horror stories, hell i've had plenty with them myself before i worked here, but the sad thing is, most other companies i've worked for or dealt with are even worse, read: @home, earthlink, telocity, etc.

just wait until qwest links up their new backbone around may/june. the nations first full OC192 backbone. *drool*

Re: DNS

do you happen to know what CO you are using? the CLLI code? curious if i can access your circuit at work. maybe "accidently" provision you up a notch :). doubtful, cuz we mostly have business customers from outside our 14 state region. but i have some friends in the megabit side.

Re: DNS

hmm... not sure... but if you can look it up, our phone number that the DSL line is on is: (206) 523-9519

we're already at 768 kbps.... not sure how much faster Qwest even offers.

Re: DNS

i'll take a gander tomorrow.

the most they probably offer there is 1 meg.

they've started a few VDSL rollouts *drool*, capacity of up to 45 megabit if close enough.

i've heard great things from a few friends out in seattle about their service. our out of region DSL SUCKS. basically because Pac Bell and SBC give us the shittest copper pairs available and say "tests fine with our equipment, i dunno what you're complaining about". thing is, is they mostly just do voice, so they don't care if it has bridge taps, or excessive voltage, as long as it works for voice.

luckily i guess in our east coast rollouts verizon is going to guarantee the circuit, and we won't even have to test it. so we'll see if that works out better or is a nightmare.

i hate dealing with SBC, for one the texas accent can be harder to understand than a foreign language at times. and two, they basically all just hate their job and don't give a crap.

ahh yess, one more day of the grind this week.
