damn brushing [Mar. 31st, 2001|10:04 pm]
Brad Fitzpatrick
John sent me a link about canker sores... one of the big causes (besides stress, which I have plenty of) is brushing too hard. My dentist told me a couple weeks ago that I wasn't brushing my gums enough (or the bottom of my front teeth at least). So, I started brushing them 'better'. Few days later and I have a canker sore right there in front on my gums.

Note to self: stop brushing that hard there.

Swing is still angering me. Anybody good at it and feel like helpin'?

Heh. That note to self is going to be pretty easy to remember for the immediate future, I'd imagine. ;) My big problem these days is that I constantly chew off the periphery of my lips. And then they get all dried and cracked. I've been trying REALLY HARD the past couple of days not to do this. I was able to smile painlessly for the first time in days this morning. Lovely.

I picked up a Colgate Actibrush and Two-in-One Toothpaste

The actibrush is cool, a $20 electric toothbrush that's powered by AA batteries. I find myself using it alot better than I was with a normal toothbrush. And you don't have to press hard either, just glide it over your teeth with a bit of pressure and massage the teeth/gums.

I like how that site says..."Almost four out of 10 people across the globe who use toothpaste, use Colgate every day..."
makes ya wonder how many people don't brush..

Whenever you start giving attention to your gums (when they've been neglected for awhile), they're always REALLY tender and stuff. I started flossing about six months ago and they bled like hell for a week. It's just the way it goes. You might lighten up on it until the canker sore heals.. or at least in that area of your mouth.. but I would keep brushing around your gums. It's good for them. Eventually they'll toughen up, too. Give it a week.

i used to get them alot... it turned out it was because of a toothpaste i was using. tarter control colgate, i think. but if you've been getting them alot you may want to try switching toothpastes and see if that helps

(just a suggestion)

I noticed that too. I tried some tartar control toothpaste and it just tore my mouth up. After usign it for two days I had to go get other toothpaste.

For anyone troubled with Canker Sores (I've literally had my mouth swolen shut with them) there is a prescription steriod called I believe Lidol (or something similar) that works WONDERS. Ask your dentist

If you have canker sores, take some Lysine- a couple of them for a few days should help clear them right up-- you'll even feel better after the first day. You can find Lysine in any drug store with all the vitamins, etc. Happy Healing!
