i read about a month ago they had laid some peeps off do to slow sales, even though that same week I bought a new system, and two co-workers had within the same month, and just a few weeks ago another freind of mine got a pimped laptop from them.. so i dont see how they can be doin so bad.. so i think they are a bit short handed.
My experience with them was pretty good, but i only talked to them on the phone once, wasnt pleased with the site as well. I had two many questions it didnt answer. I think they sent me the wrong box with the right options.. but I dont care at this point. I wanted the all black box but i got the 8100 which i believe was actually more expensive with the siver front.. so i decided not to worry about it, i dont think i got jipped for money and am to lazy to do that ship back thing, it was hard enough to get it from the apt. comples office to my apartment by myself...
I was though, really happy with the month later follow up phone call, were they attempted to seel me nothing, asked me if i was happy with the system and had gotten all my billing info and offered to send me paper work for auto-withdrawl on the Dell Loan thingy payments. That was a very nice curtesy call, best I ever got actualy.
UGH! I get a call everyday at work from these people. I work at a small business, and some how they think we told them we are looking to buy 50 to 100 computers in the next year, and want the details of each one so they can get me some price quotes. FUCK OFF!!!!
I told them like a million times that the only way we will chat if they get there prices near everyone else in the world. Then they are like, "lets see what we can do" And again they about double the price send me quotes then follow up. Then about 2 hours later someone else calls back asking if you made up your mind yet, and they have new deals. DIE!
My thoughts exactly.
The "2nd processor module" I just bought was $600 .... 3 times more expensive than just getting a 866-133 from a local store here. What the fuck? Seriously.
No more Dells for LiveJournal.
Yeah exactly. Everything is customized. Customized meaning they built it so you have to modify every part with some plastic connector to make it fit just right. Bitches.
And the last decent dealer bites the dust.
Yeah, the people that get "assigned" to new orders are the same people who answer the calls from the fucking general pool... so they're ALWAYS on the phone. There's no way to get through to them other than via email. I tried a couple of times a day for an entire week and never got through.
"I also need some new harddrives for Kenny ... are those Dell-specific?"
I doubt it, not even Apple uses Proprietary HDs in their machines.
the hard drives are not dell-specific. just make sure if you're adding to a raid array that they are the same model and rpm.
But the enclosure seems to be..... :-/
I seem to remember hearing once (maybe even on LJ) that Dell actually repackages and resells EMC enclosures, so if it will work there . . .
god... Dell.com.... it's pure ugliness, man. I can't even bear to look at it.
"It's been nice and sunny lately and I've been wearing jeans, two shirts, and a coat. Today I decided to wear shorts and a t-shirt without a coat since it was so nice out. Kenji and I got off the bus and it started raining. We looked up ... blue skies. Anyway, it remained cold and annoying slightly rainy all day. Brrr."
Gotta love Washington.
Damn you with your tan body!

okay, we'll invite her.
she has a boyfriend, though.
Its only because I lived in Arizona. ;)
So what's ladies night? Also, don't you have a girlfriend Mr. Fitzpatrick?
Baah... I'm just kidding.
Chuck's the one that wants to invite you.... he's the single one. :-)
I knew that much.
I just like to play along.

ladies night is something that probably will never happen :( We just wanted to have a fun night..get all dressed up, drink some wine by candlelight, a real classy event...then we break out twister(heh). But the girlfriends seem to be saying no to the whole idea...pssh, crazy girlfriends =)
It sounds very fun, I don't understand why they wouldn't want to.

yep...if it does actually happen, you should come...even if you are already taken =)
Thank you ever so much for inviting me.
I do need to get out once in awhile. :-)
I haven't found a place to get "dell specific" drive enclosures from, and their site doesn't want to cough up details. They're probably some generic brand, but they don't say anywhere about just which generic brand they actually are.
Which is irking, to say the least.
Yup, I understand. I called up once with a specific question about the load-balancing feature of Win2K Server and if that was included in their new 1U rackmount unit. It took me half an hour, two sales people and a dozen questions from them plus, practically, my signature in blood promising that I would buy a whole bunch of hardware from them in the next year before they would answer the question.
The answer was, 'Yes'.
And I needed a good, stiff drink after that call.
I dunno if you guys have much experience with big corporation stuff, but I think the reason for all this hastle is because Dell does *LOTS* of government and big business deals.
They *HAVE* to do all that to provide the levels of service that their clients expect.
Unfortunately their customer service is aimed at these clients, and not us small guys. I mean, we like prompt service, but we don't have multi-million dollar contracts with them, with the choice of running off to another service provider / dealer if they don't service us just right.
With goverment etc they keep track of how long the 'call' takes and who worked on it and what was done and all the petty little things, so they have the stats to come back and say, "Ahh but within the bounds set down in the contract for our service with you our service was totally acceptable and our charge rates were justifiable and if you want to quit the contract we have the upper hand and we will sue you for all you're worth! So ner!" And they say it all in one long winded breath like that too.
I remember trying to get information out of Dell here in the UK a while ago (three of four years) and having pretty much the same problems ... it sucked.
I think the marketing folks have gotten obsessed with this drem ideal of "relationships" with customers, which actually does get in the way of actually doing business.
