Try out Swiffer if you haven't already. It works surprisingly well.

heh...the only carpet in my house is in the bedrooms...after a week of sweeping, I bought a small vacuum for the express purpose of vacuuming the floor. I keep it under lock and key, my roommates can sweep for all I care. slobs, all of 'em.

Today's comic strip, The Norm (couldn't actually find it online yet), has something you could probably identify with, then.

It shows Norm sweeping the floor, carrying laundry around, vacuuming while listening to a Walkman, coughing in the middle of a cloud of dust from the duster, scrubbing the floor while on his hands and knees, before he pauses and thinks to himself, "I try not to be sexist - but anytime I clean, I think about getting married."

If you cut out the front and the top of a cereal box (If it's standing up, facing you) it makes a good dust pan.
More rigid regular boxes that have the same shape as a cereal box will work better.

Swiffers work really well. I'll buy you a dustpan if you come clean mine :)

Panasonic and Daewoo both do pretty good vacuum cleaners; my Mum owns a really good Panasonic, and we just bought (blue) Daewoo that works well, picks up really good, but isn't as solid. If it's going to get knocked around or trodden on, you'll need one with a metal pipe rather than plastic.

I think we have two vacuums already...but that swifter thing does look pretty cool.

I had a complete brainfart reading the entry ... he said he was going to buy a dustpan and then misread the next line, thought he was going to buy a vacuum too. Never mind :)
