traversing the lake [May. 18th, 2001|03:59 pm]

everyday I look out the windows over the lake and want a little rowboat or blowup raft so I could slowly row to the other side. today i feel like swimming across it. my dad and I swam across a lake once in wisconsin ... that was fun.

get a row boat row out to the middle and lay back. just stare up at the sky then jump in the water swim around and get back in the boat take a nap and then realise you have no clue which direction you came from. its a great feeling:)

Then do it! It will be amazing for you... You seem like the type of guy who would have that urge and be in the water that same second!

A coupla months ago, in the fall, I built a raft out of 2x4s and 2x6s... My friend and I started just nailing them together in a somewhat organized fasion and when we were finished... we couldn't pick it up... not even tip it on its side.

So we called up a bunch of people and it took like 8 of us to carry it 100 yards to the lake. Then, it floated, but if you stood on it, it'd sink down about an inch. Nevertheless, Lloyd, Belinda, and I took turns standing on it 2 at a time while the other one swam pushing it in this gravel pit lake.

That was fun. But we were so stupid. At least it didn't sink.

BUILD ONE!

Uhhh don't go swimming, if it is either Green Lake or Lake Union you are looking at. Too much goose crap in the water. Plus there are man eating carp in Green Lake.

Re:

Not much better, but at least you probably won't get swimmer's itch.

Bad things will happen to your skin if you go into the lake down at that park. It used to be an old Naval Air Station. Who knows what they dumped. People don't even let their dogs get near the water along the off-leash area.

The next sunny, windy day walk north from the park through NOAA area. It's open to the public. You can check out the wild harmonics of the Soundgarden (the sculpture the band named themselves after) and then continue to the second vista at the end of the path. You can sit on a cut rock right over the lake with nothing before you but miles of water. And take a laptop...just in case you go into withdrawal or something ;)

Actually, I've seen huge numbers of dogs swimming in that water on numerous occasions. :-)

something i glanced at back there mentioned bad things happening to you if you swim in that water. that's usually a good reason to not go anywhere near it or its precipitants.

but i was ba'out to say, i always try to talk my little brothers into swimming out to the sandbar at portage lake (here in michigan), which isn't a far swim, about half a mile. if we wore flags on our ankles or bouy lines (so boats can see) we'd be safe from boaters (hopefully) but i even said to them they could wear life preservers for the swim and they were still too afraid.

??? kids!
