I got "gumbo" today...

Hmmm... dictionary.com has different WsOTD in their archive section and I apparently get different words than you do. =P

... even the dog doesn't care a picayune for my gumbo =)

Re: I got

This is Brad's word of the day, not dictionary.com's word of the day. I'm just linking to dictionary.com.

They didn't even mention that it's the name of a newspaper (The New Orleans Times-Picayune). Pootyheads. :-)

Weird. Would that be suggesting it's not worth reading, then?

Though, it could have to do with the five-cent part, maybe if that's what it originally cost.

Picayune is also the name of a city fairly close to where I live on the Mississippi Gulf Coast. It's known as a very, um, redneckish place compared to the coast, so when my friends and I found out the word had a real meaning a few years back we really laughed it up.
