imap masta' [May. 21st, 2001|08:52 pm]
Brad Fitzpatrick
who's the UW-IMAPD configuration master? I am, that's who!

dear god, I know way too much about it now, but I'm glad I do.... my mail is sooooo fast and cool now. I'm using mbx files instead of mbox, so I have damn fast access to them and can have multiple IMAP connections open at once to the same folders, even deleting and expunging from both connections. woot. fun fun.

so if you want to reply to this entry and talk about tacos or anything, go ahead... I want to test that all my procmail filters are still working now that I had to change the delivery mechanism.

Beware of giant goats near barbed-wire fences. Especially when you're six.

Those mbx files won't work with a lot of webmail servers tho'. Like Neomail.

Neomail's sweet because it doesn't fuck up your mailbox w/ regards to pine, so I love it. It even is aware of the stupid fake messages pine slaps into your inbox.

Ah well.

imap's sweet, though, I will agree with that. Still prefer ssh/pine most of the time, or imap/pine if I'm on a unix box.

I'll only use webmail tools that use IMAP as their backend, not manipulating spool files.

Besides, it don't scale. :P

Tacos are great and all, but do you really think that it's an appropriate topic conversation? You could offend someone y'know.

yeah, UW programmers suck, apparently. been pretty clean for awhile, though.

I like Cyrus too, but not on small installations where I want my mail spools easily accessible.

my dad uses elm on our family server... how could I take that wonderful mail client away from him by switching to Cyrus? :)

So, Brad, how's the paper coming?

You know you want to host some boxes over here east side. Witht he Big-IP, abarros claims you can load/geographically balance over huge spaces. And if you make the LJ system really interconnectable, you can have people run their own servers, and license back the rights to connect to the main LJ servers. Just some ideas.

Out of curiosity, how many megs of data are uploaded to LJ in the span of an hour (max/min/avg)?

Maybe I should post this in lj_dev... hmm... maybe...
