Grammar fight!

Kenji and I were talking and I said "Straight up" and then we both got that Paula Abdul song in our head, so now we're listening to it. Aaaaaahh yea'. ;-P heh.

Speaking of grammar...

What's the correct way to sign "The (Your Family Name)"? If I have to write a thank you note or something for my family, I'll write "The Lugods", but I've seen some people write "The Lugod's". I don't understand why they'd put an apostrophe after the last name, because it makes me think "The Lugod's what?". What's the proper way to write that?

I don't think you'd use an apostrophe in that case.... I could be wrong, though.

In general, people use apostrophes way too often.
