everything's working now okay.

sound is working from mpg123, but not from xmms. i'm using the 2.4.5 kernel driver for the maestro3. not OSS. but can't XMMS still write to /dev/dsp like mpg123 does? who knows... i have no clue what i'm talking about. Update: heh... helps if I have permission to /dev/dsp, huh? :P

i setup a new 22GB partition and formatted it reiserfs, then copied all my /usr stuff over to it, which i noticed was going damn slow. so then I want to hdparm -d 1, but I'd forgot to enable DMA support in my kernel, so 3rd kernel was a charm. my /usr is now reiserfs.

network card ... i was just going to complain about it but I see the problem. etherconf overwrote my /etc/network/interfaces ... etherconf doesn't support an "up" command it seems, and I had "up ifconfig eth0 promisc" in there before. whatever. apt-get remove etherconf. i can do it myself.

getting really sick of working on this, but i'm basically done.

still haven't got suspend to disk working (haven't worked on it)... and i haven't rebooted into windows in a long time. wonder if that partition's hosed. maybe i'll do that.

running with chuck later. he says he can't run at all, which is good since I only got about 4.5 hours of sleep.

oh, btw... apt-get install gtk-engines-raleigh ... pretty nice.
