Take it seriously

RSI can destroy a life... I know... it has mine. Please take care of yourself.

You have 6 months to beat the pain from the onset of symptoms before it becomes permanent and damages you.

Best to you,

Do *not* pass "go", do *not* collect $200!!!

RUN, do not walk, to your nearest computer store and buy an ergonomic keyboard.

CTS has gotten me to the point where I cannot change the oil in my car, because I no longer have the strength in my wrists to manipulate the wrenches.

I occasionally get to the point where I cannot open a can of soda. Opening a can with a handheld can opener is damned near impossible.

You also *may* want to invest in some wrist braces from Wal-Mart or the like...I have them and sleep with them on (don't wear them any other time) and it helps a *lot*.

The keyboard and the braces won't stave it off permanently, but there are other things you can do, too (stretching, breaktime, buying voice-recognition software :::grin:::) that will alleviate it.

Re: Do *not* pass

I have an ergo-keyboard, actually.

Wrist braces might be good, though.

Re: Do *not* pass

Have you been typing on the laptop? I have one and it *kills* me.

Stretching will help a lot. Stretch your wrist, turn it, bend it as far as you can both directions, bend each individual finger. I know in April I was carrying a bench with someone that was really heavy, and my wrists were sore for the rest of the day from the stretching, but boy oh boy did I feel a ton better the next day!

Ice will help too.

The braces from Wal-Mart are like $20 and you sorta have to shape the metal piece inside it to fit you...I shape it to put pressure on that nerve and wear them as tight as I possibly can (they don't cut the circuation off, but I imagine your hands are probably a different size than mine, so be careful of that.

You *probably* will not be able to type with them on, though I imagine anything is possible. :)

You might wanna see if you can find a massage therapist in your area who specializes in RSI...mine is great and even though it hurts like hell to have her rubbing on that tendon, it feels a lot better afterwards.
