Hi [Sep. 4th, 2001|11:17 pm]
Brad Fitzpatrick
Hi. My name is Brad. I an am open source programmer. I just watched the movie Antitrust and now I'm inspired and am going to go save the world just like Ryan Phillippe. Too bad Rachael Leigh Cook got arrested ... she was seccsy.

Please don't disturb me ... I need to go hack the encryption codes and upload my source code to the mother satellite now. Oh yeah, can you read me those IP addresses again? The biggest company on the planet is too lame to setup DNS. Thanx.

Please don't interrupt me... I'm in the middle of shutting down IPv4 and implementing IPv6. I'm doing it for the future of America.... waffle irons, toasters, and espresso machines need to have static IP's.

Heck anything that plugs into an AC outlet needs an ip address.

At least Matthew Broderick believed in some form of cracking/war-dialing.

Hey Brad

Remember me? I'm that geek that emailed you the other day and was talking to you on AOL. *laughs* Yea, that movie was pretty lame...although, did you see Hackers? Uh oh...looks like someone's using the ultra-cool, highly secret Trojan to do some hacking. Simply amazing the movies they come up with these days to "justify" computer hacking

Can't talk Brad, I'm busy trying to hack my school's computer system so that I can make the sprinkler system turn on at my whim. I'm not doing it to see the hot cheerleader squad nip in their white uniforms nor am i doing it to ruin text books or to wash the wig off of old man Johnson. I'm merely doing it because I want to piss off Angelina Jolie, super hottie uber-geek chick. I will have my revenge...

Best way to piss off Angelina Jolie? Make her and her brother sleep in separate beds.

I found Antitrust to be rather amusing.
BTW, did you notice that the IPs in that scene were all in 10.0.0.0/8? The biggest corp in the world, and it can't afford routable IPs for its satellites...

Well it's kind of like how all the phone numbers in movies begin with 555. They don't want people actually calling the numbers to see what's at the other end. ;)

And remember...

"When you kill people, they die, FOR REAL!"

That was a major line in the movie, and it was bad!

Oh come on, don't be so hard on it. Take Antitrust and Hackers for what they're worth. Thanks to these movies, I can entertain my little fantasies that someday I will find a nice mature geekboy with the sex appeal of Ryan Philippe or Jonny Lee Miller. Geek boys everywhere have more fodder for their fantasies of a Geek Goddess with the body of Angelina Jolie or Rachel Leigh Cook.

I heard the phrase "open source" come out of Ryan Phillippe's mouth. That's sex fantasy fuel for months.

I would love to see screen captures from that movie where Ryan Phillipine is hax0rizing the day care place. I saw it a while ago, but I remember seeing him typing in random UNIX commands (something like 'rsh tar').

nifty cool

yeah, and it's incredible what cool-looking output you get when you type something like "ls -ail". or we could get really cryptic and do something like "ps -aelf". lame lame lame.

movie was decent though; still trying to figure out why they used gnome rather than kde. that, and why everyone on the antitrust message boards kept thinking that it was c++ being used rather than java. lamer frosh comp-sci wanna-be's.

Re: nifty cool

| movie was decent though

I agree, but then again, I've seen Hackers maybe 10 times ;)

|still trying to figure out why they used gnome
|rather than kde.

Don't even start that flamewar ;)

By the way, I seem to remember them using some sort of IDE, or at least something that did syntax highliting. Anyone know what that was? They were using Gnome and it was GTK-ish, so perhaps Glade?

|that, and why everyone on the antitrust message |boards kept thinking that it was c++ being used |rather than java.

I also enjoyed how the AntiTrust web site had interviews with John "MadDog" Hall to make it seem more appealing to geeks. Did you notice how Miguel de Icaza was in the movie for 1/10th of a second?

|lamer frosh comp-sci wanna-be's.

There is an infinite supply :)

Re: nifty cool

Just because you've watched "Hackers" 10 times doesn't mean it's a good movie. It just means you , like the rest of the world, can appreciate Angelina Jolie's amazing breasts^H^H^H^H^H^H^Hacting talent.

Re: nifty cool

I hope that was ment in a joking manner. Anyway, I don't have much time to discuss this right now at all. For the record, I don't think Angelina Jolie is that great looking. Hackers, on the other hand, was very entertaining, IMHO. (Notice the "IMHO" :). It wasn't Dr. Strangelove, but it had entertainment value, especially for geeks, didn't it? It was very cheesy, very quotable, very good to make fun of.

Yeah, that's it, I am out of time, I'll stop rambling.

Oh, one other thing: would anyone dispute that "I told you, don't call me Eugene, I am THE PLAGUE" is the best line in the movie? ;)

Re: nifty cool

Angelina Jolie isnt the hottest person in the world, but she's pretty damn good...

Hackers was alright, but I only own it because I won it in a contest...heh.

Antitrust was better I think and it had two hotties instead of 1, plus there's the scene where he's using UNIX...can't get better than that. The computing scene's in movies have come a long way from "The Net."

Re: nifty cool

oh, come on! didn't you know every hacker LOVES mac gui's? remember the trafficlight prog in hackers? or the sprinkeler system? how about the random, meaningless screen shots that fill your screen when you click on the pi symbol in the net? mad props to the 37337 gui h4x0rZ!

Re: nifty cool

I'm just waiting for someone to figure out a way to direct video output onto a huge piece of plexiglass hanging from the ceiling like in Hackers. Can you imagine playing Q3 like that? Drool.
