damn! [Sep. 11th, 2001|08:41 am]
Brad Fitzpatrick
Everybody started calling me this morning when all the shit started going down. Fucked up!

  • the media sucks. I learned more from people's journals than I did anywhere else... but I guess they all got it from the media. circlek has the best coverage.
  • I guess Echelon, Carnivore, etc. are all pretty useless ... if the government monitors all communications foreign and abroad, this should make them realize they're fighting a losing battle... I mean, a single loony might slip by, but how do you miss hearing about a coordinated attack this large?
  • Bush is probably happy as hell right now... this means he gets to attack somebody! And he will. Even if they don't learn who, we'll attack somebody and put the blame there.
  • Evan joked InterNAP was secure as long as the monorail doesn't derail and the Space Needle doesn't fall over. Not so funny anymore. But seriously, the Space Needle is a gimmicky tourist attraction that holds a hundred fanny-pack-weari' sight-seers at a time; I don't think it's in the same ballpark as targets like the World Trade Center and the Pentagon. People on the news need to chill out and worry about the larger problem...
  • Larger problem: more bombings, retaliation, war, chemical/biological attacks...
Need to shower and get back to the news.

That's what scares me the most. Bush would be happy to start WW III... Fuck.

You need to cut the media some slack. The World Trade Center was quite important for communication itself, so it's to be expected that their feeds are going to be slow and unreliable. I'm watching the BBC's relayed US News Broadcasts now and they seem to be doing the best they can.

NYC is in a very bad state from what I'm watching now. I'm sure the media coverage will catch up once NYC can be reopened and they can regain access, alongside the people who were there coming out of shock so they can actually give coherant responses to questions from reporters.

That's fair enough, I suppose. The news people over here seemed to be grasping at straws since their communications were basically just knocked out. The BBC had one correspondant in New York City, who was actually in the WTC at the time, and that was all. They were relying solely on the reports and footage supplied by US companies such as NBC.

At least the BBC had the good sense to say that everything was "unconfirmed" and "possible".

I didn't say he was happy about that.

But I'm sure he loves the opportunities he has now to do something big (like, oh, start a war)

yorkshire tv showed...

a guy, walking around Leeds city centre today who said "if we're lucky, our children will write about this day in 10 years time. if we're unlucky there will be no children"

i think he had a point.

it is bad, but so is america's attitude of "we must show the rest of the world how wonderful we are" sometimes. i think everyone needs to take a step back and think very carefully before they do anything stupid in retaliation ... but i dont think Bush is likely to do that :(

I agree with you on this war stuff. Everyone keeps talking about war war war. As my brother said, we can't go to war with a terrorist group, which is responsible. So what will we do? Go to war with a country and kill more innocent people. It sickens me.

I agree.

As Jello Biafra says be your own media. Also it is nice to see someone talk about echelon for once, seeing as it talks about us so much.
