Bike helmet ... where art thou? [Sep. 19th, 2001|01:26 pm]
Brad Fitzpatrick

Been searching for my bike helmet... it wants to go on a bike ride, and I want to go with it.

But I got distracted and played guitar instead.

And now I just got distracted from writing this entry and worked on cleaning my overflowing inbox because talking about guitar reminded me that I hadn't responded to an email from rory yet.

So many interesting emails from people lately. 84 messages in my inbox, though ... need to clean them sometime.

Been learning DocBook and tools today and last night.

I have a papercut on the fatty part of my palm below my thumb. The weird thing is that I never get papercuts... I got it Tuesday evening, the same day the girl at the music store was ringing me up and got a papercut ... selective perception? Nirvana and Linkin Park's paper cut songs are now moved up in my 2,000 song random playlist and random is off. Yay for "J". (props to whitaker for the xmms strategy)

Now onto something productive.

Anybody up for a bike ride and/or run later?

I've never gotten a papercut in my life before.

You like Linkin Park? Woot. Good taste, good taste. Crawling, In The End, and Papercut are my three favorite songs on the album, in that order. :)

In the end is my favorite song, even though I find the whole cd in my player most of the time when I drive to work

Rather than pick a new song every 2-3 minutes and waste productivity context-switching, just put all your mp3s on your playlist on random.

- always a song playing

- if a bad song comes on, just hover over xmms and hit "B" (Mnemonic: bad song, next).

- If a good song from a good album comes on, turn off random for awhile, until you get sick of that artist.

- If you want to hear a specific song, hit "J" to bring up the "Jump to song" dialog, which is infinitely quicker than GTK's god-awful directory/file browser.

Wow, you just explained like 10 other benefits that I'm so used to, I totally forgot about. :-)

NOW, what we need is a plugin for xmms that will make it take statistics of what songs you skip over most and then only play "good shit"...

Actually, already kinda did that. :)

I log the time of song changes and what song change... from that I generate statistics of songs that got changed within 7 seconds, then remove them from my all.m3u file. :)

Hehehe. Sweet. :-)

But, you should make it like... if it happens thrice in a row or something. What if you're just hitting 'b' because you're not sure what you want to listen to ? I do that sometimes.

Load your whole root mp3 path into a big playlist and just use J to get what you want, rather than loading up a ton of m3us and shit.
