:) thankyou, Brad

"404" is quicker and easier to type (and say) than "clueless." For those of us who appreciate economy of effort (and who does not?) this is the biggest breakthrough since Will Smith coined "jiggy", which he defines as "...cool to the 9th power, nuclear cool...it's a theoretical state..." HA!

Re: :) thankyou, Brad

It's funny how "www" is three times as many syllables as "world wide web" to pronounce.

Re: :) thankyou, Brad

I know a number of people who pronounce it as "dub dub dub".

Re: :) thankyou, Brad

I mostly avoid the term altogther except in hostnames. When in hostnames I say "dubyoudubyoudubyou" very fast because people know what I'm saying.

The term "web" has turned from a cute name (like Gopher, Archie and others which aren't puns but also have left my head) to buzzword, and I hate buzzwords.

Re: :) thankyou, Brad

It's a strange oddity of how the human brain works which meant that I never really considered how "UW" was pronounced. It never occured to me that it had more than one syllable, because I never had any need to say it verbally.

Weird. (Part of me thinks I would probably call it "You-wash".)

Re: :) thankyou, Brad

I don't know what UW people call their college, but people around here (Illinois) call Washington University (Missouri) "Wash U" all the time.

Re: :) thankyou, Brad

yeah, I know...someone should have found a different name for "world wide web"...how about "Your ultimate obsession" or "yuo" for short? hehe (I just took a survey and found out I am 49% internet obsessed.)

I live in Apartment 404 of my building, which we've nicknamed "Apartment Not Found". That was before I'd heard of this usage - wonder what it implies about the inhabitants. :)
