The OSCON deadlines have passed, and we're all full. However, your experience sounds like it'd be perfect for a perl.com article and success story. I've CC:ed Simon Cozens, who edits perl.com, and Betsy Waliszewski, who collects success stories.

Thanks!
oh well.

today's been fun. lots of interesting stuff going on, but too busy to write about it. bye. :P

That sucks, I was hoping that you might have a shot at it.
Still, a perl.com story is pretty good :)

Yeah, that'll still be cool.

Next year I'll get my shit together in time.

You are still a student right now. Go on and get your pass for it while you still have the status :)

Hm... where do I get a pass?

No linkage to anything interesting from here:

Not on sale yet, perhaps?

Open Source convention.

I went last year (San Diego) and it totally rocked. But I went as a student, so it was damn cheap. Now that I'm not a student, my best way to get there is for free, by writing a paper and doing a talk. But I missed the deadline.

If we get a booth, we can probably also get a free pass or two out of it. I will email them about that...

Surprising, really. I know we didn't have this much advanced warning of last year's OSCON. They certainly like having things planned out early.

With a booth you have to ask yourself why you want one, and what it will do for you.
They don't have community booths like some conferences. There's is all business.

Understandable, but if it is free and comes with free passes, there's no real downside. I don't believe in paying for a booth... that would be a real waste of money and effort.

Chris Dibona is who you want to hit up for a booth for Linux World Expo. You would need to do it from the angle of the Live Journal Development. Mention all of the other groups using the code. That is also in August in San Fran.

Not to mention the slight irony of paying to get into an open source convention.

(I do understand the destinction between free-as-in-beer and free-as-in-speech)
