Note to self [Mar. 31st, 2002|08:02 am]
Brad Fitzpatrick
Dear Brad,

It's been awhile since I wrote.

Just wanted to remind you to pack today. You'll have like 19 hours of flights and layovers tomorrow to program. But you can't pack once you're already on the plane. Something to think about it.

Lovingly always,
Brad

Are you going anywhere near Heathrow Airport? (as in London)

I've known people going to other European countries from the USA via Heathrow before. I just happen to be only a few miles from Heathrow right now! ;)

I've gone through Heathrow in the past, but not this trip.

I fly Portland to Denver to Frankfurt to Dresden.

Bullocks! (heh, or something... :P)

Dresden?! Holy shit, boy - where's your final destination?

Okay, you've probably been lectured a zillion times, but ... here's my unsolicitied 2 cents. Don't look American. Blend. Don't wear anything that makes you stand out as American and try to speak as little as possible. :)

Anyway, I wish you a safe flight and have fun!

Dresden is my final destination. Speak as little as possible? Hmm... that kinda runs counter to my plan of speaking a lot to try and learn German better.

err rephrase: speak English as little as possible in public ;) And while in airports, your German too ;)

You've probably also been told this, but ... as soon as a German picks up any hint of American accent, chances are they'll start speaking to you in English.

Or at least that's how it was where I lived ... but I was faaar away from where you'll be - in the Rhineland-Pfalz area :)

Yeah, that is a big problem indeed. Most people will try to practice their English when confronted with Americans and/or people from English-speaking countries. I'll smack them in the back of their head if they do. Or I'll just smack Brad. ;P
