Go check it out indeed... It could be something simpler, like what happened to me when I was much younger... It was wax (sounds gross but it can happen) in my case. The doctor put some plastic plugs in my ears that I kept for a few weeks and when he removed them I was fine.

I had actually had been almost-deaf for most my childhood and nobody knew!

my mother has a condition where there's a persistent ringing in her ears. if it's particularly quiet she really notice it. doctors say the ring will eventually progress to the point of making it hard for her to hear. and it's hereditary.

I've noticed if I'm in a completely quiet room I vaguely hear a ringing in my ears.

yeah, go to the doctor now, it's prolly tinnitus. Or it could just be excess ear wax.

That would be Tinnitus... you should get it checked out... I only get it after listening to loud music... but it is linked to deafness.

If it is tinitus, there's not a whole lot of point in seeing a doctor because there's nothing that can be done about tinitus.

I've had what Brad's describing most of my life. Occasionally, my ears will just ring for a short time spontaneously, and then stop after about a minute. Not a whole lot can be done about it, so it's a matter of just dealing with it. It's not been much of a problem so far.

I agree with you. Often a sudden ringing in your ears is a sign for stress too; there is no reason to panic when this happens. It is, however, a reason to find out why your ears are ringing =)

Strangly enough, this happened to me yesterday for the first time in a couple of years. My left ear started ringing for 20 secs or so. Cleared up fine tho...

stress, lack of sleep, and certain drugs (caffiene/alcohol) can cause temporary tinitis.

i'd go get it checked out though.
