Dear authors of nearly all AIM clients for *nix, you suck. Can you write anything that doesn't segfault? Not. That. Fucking. Hard. gaim and kinkatta are both crashing on me today. I'd use ntaim if there were a few more convenient key bindings. And I'd add them, if I didn't have my own projects. Or, I could use AIM on windows and be plagued with a bloated executable and ads. Wait, maybe I'll try out the Trillium or whatever that everybody's always talking about. Hope it supports tabbing.
In good news ... mod_perl rules. Almost as much as not having to go to school or work.
Actually, if my AIM clients crashing are the worst of my problems, life's pretty damn good.
I was out reading my books in the hammock earlier, listening to birds chirping and squirrels running up and down the trees. Yea'.
Adium? OS X is afterall more or less a *nix too ;)
Try AIM+ it's an add on and runs with aim, but it eliminates the adds and such. I don't have and resource issues with it like AIM, but you probably run more intense stuff.
where do you find AIM+ ?
I was thinking about writing my own AIM client, just cause I wanted to add logging. Frustrating to come back to a machine notice it has crashed/rebooted (cause it's windows and does stuff like that) and then later find out you missed something.
ironic this came up today as I was just thinking aboutit.
Now if I could only get battle.net to auto log as well....
google is da bomb.
I had family over today and they wanted a phone number, so they wanted me to go to this website, but I hit google instead, and it found it while they were still telling me the address they'd wanted me to look at. =)

Did he write GtkIMHtml? That's the widget in GAIM that segfaults for me.

Heh... You put me in the mood for some mod_perl hackage, so I've been trying to modularize BML so that it lives in its own self-contained package with subs which can be called to initialize BML and process BML source into HTML. My intention was then that BML::ApacheMod (for
Irreparable invalid markup ('<ttmod_perl)>') in entry. Owner must fix manually. Raw contents below.]

My intention was then that BML::ApacheMod (for <ttmod_perl) and bmlp.pl would <code>require BML;</code> and call these subs at particular points in the proceedings to get HTML output and print it in an appropriate way.</p>
<p>However, I didn't realise until now how messy BML is! Shame on you, Mr Fitzpatrick! <tt> ;p</tt> I've pretty much sorted out in my head what should go in which "modules" (caller, BML, BML::Client, and BML::Func) but making that separation looks like it could take a very long time to do cleanly.</p>
<p>Fun highlights of my design are that the main handler sub can optionally take a code ref to use for output instead of a scalar ref to fill, and that the mod_perl version could read its settings from the Apache configuration rather than bmlp.cfg if that's desirable. However, I'm pretty daunted by BML, so I don't know how likely it is I'll manage to implement fully rather than just giving up after a while.</p>
<p>It's all good fun, anyway.</p>

Stupid fingers. The sentence beginning "My intention" was intended to read...
My intention was then that
BML::ApacheMod (for mod_perl) and bmlp.cfg can
require BML; and call these subs at particular points in the proceedings to get HTML output and print it in an appropriate way.
Knowing you got a TiBook, I gotta go with the Adium supporters. I have used Adium from the day I got my iBook and I absolutely love it. The main site is http://www.adiumx.com
It's a gorgeous client, with very little bloat. Mmm.
When did you last update your gaim code? The coders on it are quite active, so you might want to rebuild from the latest CVS if you haven't already.

i like to watch birds and squirrels too!
uh oh...you have been busted by the gay police:
>>>got all gay on me
don't be an ass
) is another great program i'd highly reccomend for removing all that ad crap from aim :)
so, umm, any of those unix clients able to run on solaris (in a user directory not like /sbin/ or anything)? Quickbuddy is just NOT a real client...
Trillian is an excellent chat cliet. Probably the best one for windows that supports all 4 (or 5) major languages. It does not support tabbing between open chat windows like GAIM does but it does support auto chat logging. Its also skinnable which I find interesting.
Verdict: Better than Jabber, AIM, and MSN, or anything else for windows but a GAIM user would feel there was something missing.
