girls, movie, fotobilder. [Jul. 22nd, 2002|12:53 am]
Brad Fitzpatrick
Had lunch with a high school friend earlier... she's awesome. There needs to be more girls like her in the world: smart, funny, ambitious[1], and cute[2] . It's rare (for me, anyway) to meet a girl with 2 of those qualities.

[1] smart is a good prereq, but they're very separate. I know too many smart people that are so unmotivated that they do nothing with themselves and end up boring.

[2] But not so cute that she's full of herself, which is all too common, especially with girls having only the cute quality.

Where could I find a girl like that? *sigh*

(FYI, not only is she too long of a friend to date, but she's living in Chicago)

Anyway... after that:

Went to a movie (Road to Perdition) with Mike and Nick. Pretty good. The fucking commercials at the beginning are getting longer and longer, though... my god.

Hofer dropped by with Mike in the evening ... hadn't seen him forever. They were off to another movie, but Hofer wanted to see my house.

Worked on FotoBilder a ton all day. (progress) All browsers suck a big fat nut when it comes to DHTML/DOM/JS, but whatever... it's kinda fun. I'm managing to only write one version that obeys the specs and doesn't do any proprietary crap. So far I've been able to get everything to work, with minimal work-arounds.

What's some good 24-hour stuff in Portland? I always want to go for a drive and get food or coffee at this time of night.

Re:

Figures. They're the worst movie chain ever. They have a SHITLOAD of ads before the actual movie, and most of them blow (like those ones from the "Foundation For A Better Life" or something fucked up like that). Also, they now check all bags, etc. that you bring in for "security" (of their profits... they don't want you taking in your own snacks). Yay for taking advantage of the terrorist attacks to increase profits!

Where could I
find a girl
like that? *sigh

You fool..

You just did!

All I heard were reasons why you couldn't have her. I'll give you a 1,000,000,000 reasons why you could and should or at least try for her. Three of the most important you have already stated here.

1.) She is a FRIEND.. with out this you might as well move on but you two have it the basis you need for ...
2.) She is intelligent.. smart, funny, ambitious[1]. she would know where to find some good 24-hour stuff in Portland? I always want to go for a drive and get food or coffee at this time of night.
3.) Shes cute.. that gets my,, an your hormones working.. hell cute is better than ..well you know what I mean.. [2] But not so cute that she's full of herself,

FYI, not only is she too long of a friend to date, but she's living in Chicago) Soooooooooo WHAT?????? It takes you longer to get to Seattle by car than Chicago by plane.

You can get on a plane can't you, pick up a phone and shmooz, send flowers and an ecard, now I know you can send her an email I have seen you do it. Give her a permenent account here on LJ and reaquaint your selves.

Damn Brad don't pass this up you might regret it for the rest of your life like I did and do. Even if it doesn't work out out you have to know right?

This is experience talking believe me.

Go for her Brad

Dude, she's intelligent. That doesn't mean she's the Yellow Pages.

Check out The Roxy. It's a little diner at 10th and Stark, couple blocks from Powells. Being on Stark the atmosphere can be a little weird (a lot of punk types hang out there), but the food is good (and cheap) and it's the only place I know of on the west side that's open 24 hours.

there's also a coffee shop about a block away from the roxy, on 10th, across the street from the pittock building, called "heaven". it's bathed in personaltelco 802.11b, and it's open until 5am, most nights, if i recall correctly. it's open fairly late, other than that. their hours are rather fluid.

there's also the original hotcake house, at powell & milwaukie. overpriced, but good enough when nothing else is open.

I think it's 24 hours from Thursday to Sunday.

(it opens around 10:30am the other days of the week)

My friends and I always end up at Bannings in the middle of the night if we want food, unless we *really* want a drive and then we tend to end up somewhere halfway to Seattle. :P

Coffee Time can be annoying, but not if you let it be. It's 24 hours and is on NW 21st and uh... I think Glisan.

Also, my ex and I went to Jubitz truck stop a lot. There a 24 hour restaurant there and it's always really quiet.

really sweet things

I read the other day on my friend's webpage that I was described as: " Devon is a really interesting girl. Extremely pretty and ambitious, it's sometimes odd to see that combination." I thought that was really sweet. I didn't know that men would actually notice those things or really want the latter or intellengence.
