tivo idea [Feb. 17th, 2003|01:18 pm]
Brad Fitzpatrick
I want to watch Tivo while I run at the gym.

I want Tivo to make a battery-powered 4-5" LCD TV with mpeg decoder, with a smallish (1/2 hours?) solid state storage device, with a clip and headphone jack. And USB, so I download programs to it from my Tivo before I go.

How rad would that be? I pick some shows I wanna watch, download 'em, then go running, clipping the device to the treadmill.

Hell, it'd be good in long car rides too (for passengers).

If Tivo lets you export or send you may be able to use The Multi Media Jukebox from Archos.

The screen isn't as big...but one of the new ARCHOS MP3 players plays MPEG and AVI video as well...so you can store video clips on the 20 GB drive and carry it with you and watch it...true this would work better with a PC DVR unit rather than Tivo...but it is sort of the same thing. I think the next version of the iPod will have the same feature (and this is when I "break" my current unit and upgrade it).

Portable Tivo would rule...

I have this version of it, it rules...

The newest version of this was rated "best of CES" by techtv. I think it's the AV350 model or something, just check out their website.

It can record MPEG-4 video/audio from your tv, vcr, dvd whatever...and it's 40GB...I highly reccomend it!

Taken a peak at the Archos Multimedia Jukebox yet?

If you're feeling really swank, mate it with a Sony Galsstron or Olympus Eye-Trek.

My Zaurus can do this (screen is a bit small though). The thing is though you want Firewire not USB. USB would be too slow.

Personally I think a better screen would also be needed. A friend of mine has a pair of the Sony video glasses. They are bit too uncomfortable but they work better the screens do.

I think USB 2 would do it...

device v. cloud

why store on the device instead of accessing your home tivo box via wireless or wired net connection at the gym (on the gym's or treadmill's tv). no need to "sync" your tivo with the device, have limited storage, or have out-of-date programming on the device.
