Pile of randomness [Feb. 23rd, 2003|11:27 am]
Brad Fitzpatrick

I spent the night at Dina's. Generally I don't because her bed's small, she sleeps earlier than I do, and she likes turning up the heater. But anyway.... I was so tired after we came back from Paddy's and the M Bar that I just crashed right away and actually slept well.

I woke up this morning at 7 and didn't want to go back to bed, so I left. Dina slept another 3 or 4 hours. I love mornings. I don't see them often enough. Driving around downtown Portland on a Sunday morning is just awesome.

The above two paragraphs are for Nicole, who likes to read about Dina, which I learned from Shelley. Sorry, Nicole... I'll try harder to keep you informed. :-)

I discovered my phone has a "voice note" feature. Little button on the side... hold it in and talk. I love it. So much safer than scribbling notes while I'm driving. And I lose my phone less often than scraps of paper.

Been optimizing LiveJournal code lately... so fun:

Girl Scout cookies were delivered yesterday. Samoas. Mmmm.

Beautiful day. Going on a bike ride in a bit.

I think I just learned SQL from your commits. ;-) Let me see if I have this down:

SELECT selects the columns that you want returned.
FROM selects the rows that you're interested in, or is it a more general source specifier?
WHERE reduces this set by providing some criteria for the match.

yes? Perhaps I should look this up.

I hope your bike ride went well.

Pretty much. FROM specifies the tables, and how to join them together.

The tricky part of SQL is learning the behavior the server, and how it optimizes queries, so you know how to best make your tables/queries for optimal performance.

Oo-oo; I'm jealous! I wish my Nextel had this! Which model does?

Girl Scout cookies were delivered yesterday.

Ah! So you're the one who's buying them from kids on eBay! ;-)

Found your journal from hindimoire's.

Just wanted to say that I really appreciate the work you are doing on LJ, coding isn't for weanies.

Also of note. Girl Scout Samoas are better than sex IMHO. But then I don't get much of either, so what do I know? =]

Sex is less calories. (in fact, it's exercise!)
