Blogging Plug-in? [Apr. 22nd, 2003|10:37 am]
Brad Fitzpatrick
Whoa... Microsoft released a "blogging plug-in" for their Media Player, so LiveJournal clients & others can get the currently playing music easier for use in blog entries....

It's crazy to see them even mention LiveJournal, much less make a product to help us. Well, I gave them Xbox money, so maybe it's karma. :P

WTF!?! P2P file sharing? How are they not getting sued into oblivion? Oh yeah, Microsoft.

My thoughts exactly.

They'll probably be sued, but it'll take ten years for there to be a settlement, and by then Microsoft will have put the RIAA out of business. Or something like that. ;)

It only works with WMP9 on WinXP, but at least it is a start. Looks like MS wants to use LiveJournal as another tool to get everyone to finally upgrade to WinXP. ;)

The world keeps getting smaller and smaller....

That is very, very cool. I use WMP on my laptop to reduce clutter -- this plug-in is very useful. Totally kick ass that they made a LiveJournal compatible plug-in...totally kick ass.

i had contacted them a while back about doing so. i sent them a copy of the skin modification as well. i guess they finally decided there was enough popularity behind it to write the plugin. i had posted about it in lj_win32 earlier today.

well, when I pay $50 for a $1 CD+case, I'll call it giving money. that's a pretty nice margin. :-)

They say w.bloggar posts to LiveJournal there, too... ?
It'd be cool if it did. That program looks pretty nice. It's a shame it isn't free.

When I was testing w.bloggar it didn't have direct support to post to LiveJournal. That might have changed, of course, and you could get it working using a blogger -> LJ protocol library, but I doubt many people have bothered to do that.

w.bloggar is one of the reasons I started pushing for simulated API support, because it would easily double the amount of clients that are available to our users.

"it" being the API support, not w.bloggar. You'll have to excuse my horrible grammar ;-)

after more thinking...

And it's also a shame we still have two confusingly-named LJ clients floating around. It's very unprofessional. (Not that professionality was ever our strong suit, but cleanliness is always a good goal.)

Is there a reason I haven't seen it mentioned anywhere (like in news or something)?

My boyfriend made it! Zach knows I love me some LiveJournal and he thought that some users might like it. He made it for lj and then they wanted it to be generalized so it became the "blogging plugin." I was actually coming over to see if you knew about it, since it went public recently. Yay! Remember, Microsoft is just made up of geeks, and geeks know about good geeky things. Of COURSE they know about lj.
