Help needed: checking pre-viewed DVDs [Sep. 21st, 2003|08:07 pm]
Brad Fitzpatrick
I just bought some pre-viewed DVDs from Blockbuster. I checked them all for scratches first, but one looks a little questionable. I want to verify its integrity without watching it.

I have a week or something to return it if it's bad. So:

What tools in Linux can I use to read the DVD and check for skips/scratches/bad sectors?

Mount it and cat the contents to /dev/null, watch for I/O errors or repeated retries. It takes a while, though...

I work PT at BBV

You *should* have 30 days to exchange the product as long as you have the receipt.

My solution is you should buy from Hollywood Video, where you can return it ANYTIME for an exchange if it goes bad!
