Kernel 2.6

In an effort to get sound working on these new office Shuttle systems, I installed Linux 2.6.0-test7, which has integrated ALSA support. (there's no OSS driver for PCI 8086:24d5, Intel Corp. 82801EB AC'97 Audio Controller (rev 02))

Well, the kernel module crashes, so no go on sound. I mailed the alsa-dev mailing list with details. I guess I could try ALSA for 2.4, but I'm kinda bored of it all now. I don't really want to learn ALSA, either.

In good news, though, 2.6 is fast. Much better X performance... better DRI? I dunno. Don't really care... it's just a lot nicer. I look forward to trying this on servers one day.
