LiveJournal's getting a bunch of blogspam lately. |
Most problems have simple and fun solutions, though:
Bye, blogspam! Play elsewhere... not on LiveJournal.
Phew, thanks. These guys need to be bludgeoned. I was just posting about it an hour ago.
You should yank /stats/latest.bml temporarily if you can't put those patches live immediately.

Actually, what I may do is just make looking at that page "poison" your IP for an hour, and rate limits are half as much when you're poisoned.

Oh, and the code's live already too. Just in diagnostics mode now where I get alerted by email if it detects a spammer. Then I verify, then block. If I get no false positives for a while, then I'll set it to auto mode.
I got a notification email within minutes of putting it live, though.

188.8.131.52.in-addr.arpa domain name pointer AC85A2B5.ipt.aol.com.
They're all coming from AOL.

The last dozen or so have been from AOL.
But they're not coming from AOL proxy addresses, they're coming from AOL client IPs, which is strange... so AOL doesn't do transparent proxying, eh? Guess people just don't change their defaults.http://webmaster.info.aol.com/proxyinfo.html
I got that shit yesterday, I was like...no freakin way.
I just disabled anon posting because for some reason it happened only 2 seconds after I made an entry.
is this about the anonymous comment directing to URL myyahoocam.tr.cx?

Re: English translation, please!
Yeah, that's one of 'em.
What about a simple anon image word confirmation page...show one of X random icons users must type that in what that is to complete the post...not easy to automate that!
I hate the random word schemes I've seen (wavy word images)...those are lame.
U could even just pull a random user pic from that LJers friends list, make the user type in the name of that user pic, how hard would it be for them to go back and read the user page to find it...
OK, maybe that is dumb...
I should never post before my third coffee...
That won't work for someone with a visual impairment
I'm partially deaf, my car radio is currently on it's highest settting...one day soon it will stop working for me. Life is unfair.
I'm sorry to read about your hearing problem, but are you suggesting we implement your solution, and when blind LJ users complain that they can no longer leave comments, we shrug our shoulders and say "life's not fair"?
Who is "we"??? You suddenly speak for LJ?
Show me the complaints from blind users.
Do you have any stats concerning the number of blind LJ users? If they are LJ users then why do they need to post anon? Is it really a critical feature...
I would never tell anyone that has lost or been denied the gift of sight that life is unfair. I was speaking of myself. And it's more than irritating that you'd twist my comment in that manner.
No I don't think it is a problem not being able to post anon with the method I suggested. It is impossible for us to fix this world so that every possible iteration of human misfortune and inequality is addressed. While I applaud attempts to level the field, it is doubtful we will allow the blind to fly the commercial airliners anytime soon. It is doubtful we'll remove all the doors on all the buildings and in all the homes to accommodate those born or having lost their arms.
If some part of LJ is being overly taxed by the anon abusive nature of the Internet and steps that alienate some users are taken in order to make the system available for all...well it's a choice that must be made.
Let's be clear. I have no desire to debate with you and no desire to have any input whatsoever upon LJ. I didn't think my comment would be taken seriously...I doubted it would be read by Brad. This was a comment in a friends LJ...nothing more.
It's all good, I didn't want to start a flame war either. By "we" I meant the LJ community and its users, since what we think does effect the Brad&co.'s decisions (e.g.
) I didn't meant to imply that I represent LJ in any way at all!
Too late you done flamed me. You're off my Christmas list, I'm having a party next week and you are not invited, I was handing out $100 bills to everyone New Years but I'm not giving you one, you're off my friends list, get out of my yard and my Dad can beat up you Dad...
