Picked up a new bike this morning:

2003 Trek 7700 FX

Also got new locks (casual one and a New York Kryptonite chain) and some shoes.

It's bike ridin' time.

Interesting spokes. Are they really paired up like the photo?

Yes. My old bike was like that as well.

That configuration (found on newer/high end bikes) allowes for equal wheel stiffness with fewer spokes (less weight).

Road Bikes

That is a nice looking bike. I've always been a mountain bike person myself, but I have a respect for road bikes...

.. and I would buy one if I wasn't afraid of ROAD RASH.

Maybe for my upcoming mountain bike purchase.

(I was about to buy a mountain bike when my street bike was stolen...)

I wish I had a nice, light bike like yours. I have a mountain bike with rear suspension (and V-brakes :() that weighs a ton. I like it enough, though it is nowhere near as nice as the mountain bike I'm sure you'll buy. However, I really wish I had a light hard-tail like this. In most cases, it suits my use far better than a heavy downhill bike.
