been doing OS homework. but i think i just found out why my computer's fucking up.... my BIOS is saying: "During the last boot-up, your system hung for an improper CPU Speed setting. Your system is now working in safe mode. To optimize the system performance and reliability, make sure the CPU speed conforms to the specifications of your CPU." Well, damnit.... I'm not overclocking it or anything. Piece of crap. Time for a new CPU? Maybe I'll put it out right now and blow dust off it.... Grrr.
yeah, so my windows computer is now in pieces all over the room, and i just blew a bunch of dust out of it, checked connections, and am booting up again, after going through the windows repair process... i'm not crossing my fingers, but it's rebooting now, piece of shit.
FUCK. It crashed again. It's totally time to load Linux on that bitch, get my NTFS data out, and fdisk the whole thing.
I'm download a new version of redhat to load onto my broken linux machine to recover my files on my ntfs partition before I hose the whole thing and start from scratch. I'm going to go take a shower now while the 650 MB .iso file downloads. Then I'll keep doing homework and rebuilding that system. Looks like I'm going to be up all night.
back from 24-hour kinkos and 24-hour subway w/ blythe. i was killing time waiting for my linux CD to burn and blythe was bored. i got folders and food, respectively. :-) installing linux now on busted windows 2000 computer, in effort to recover my NTFS partition
just did a clean install of Windows 2000 .... what's it going to do? oh, oh... is it working? oh my, it just got past the part it normally crashes at!
yeah, so windows 2000 seems to be working now, and I was able to preserve my data on the drive, so now I'm going to copy over to my linux machine what I want to keep, then nuke the whole windows drive (all 25 gig) and reinstall windows 2000 a third time, totally fresh. then reinstall all my applications.
Hmm... it's getting light outside now. Birds are starting to chirp. Installing Windows 2000 for the third time, this time over a freshly-wiped hard disk, with all my data backed up to my linux machine.
nearing 7am and I have my windows computer nearly functional again. total disk usage: 1.21 gb. (compared to 11 gb before). granted, i haven't installed Visual Studio yet, but that's not 10 gig. i'm glad I went this route, even though it took all night. the system is very clean and fast now, comparatively better than it was after the 1st installation.
Stressful day. Slept through econ (new record for most missed days this week), and went to OS at 12:30 (the early section). Been working on OS project w/ group last hour. Going to kill 45 minutes now until our project meeting with our TA and go play some frisbee. Then tonight I got a shitload of homework due tomorrow.
been working on installing Visual Studio, MSDN, service packs, and recovering old data. need to do homework soon here. our OS project plan presentation went well, but actually doing it's going to be a bitch. going down to blythe's for awhile. she has dr. pepper.
back from blythes. she gave me a dr. pepper. now i guess i should do my homework from hell that's due tomorrow and I have yet to start or even look at. (go me.)
oh, so true.
just woke up from an accidental, yet very fulfilling nap. went down and ate the worst damn pizza in my life w/ scott. still have 7 long tedious proofs to do before tomorrow.
