off to class....
off to class w/ scott.... scott stayed up past his regular 10:00pm bed time and worked until 2:30 am on our OS project..... way to go scott! ;-)
i just got a whole bunch of new stuff working in our operating system during my break.... i actually think we're going to finish this project. i'm off to two classes now... should get back my quiz/midterm from monday... *gulp*
in the lab yet again. had to come and explain to Brian and Mark what Scott and I have on the project and what they should work on... leaving now, though.... gonna go look at an apartment and then a house. after that we have a frisbee game (at 6:15)...
off to frisbee game.... we're in the finals now or something..... so I guess it's important.... :-P
back from frisbee.... awesome game .... we were down 0-3 at the beginning, but then came back 6-3 and then went on to win it.... watching dawson's creek now.
I've just spent an hour debugging part of our operating system project and finally now just traced it down to my misunderstanding of the strncpy() function....
The strcpy() function copies the string pointed to be src (including the terminating `\0' character) to the array pointed to by dest. The strings may not overlap, and the destination string dest must be large enough to receive the copy. Why does it null-pad it? I don't see that as being particularly beneficial. I don't mind it... and now that I understand that n should be the MIN(src, dst) it's all good... but it seems unnecessary. Evan? Scott?
The strncpy() function is similar, except that not more than n bytes of src are copied. Thus, if there is no null byte among the first n bytes of src, the result wil not be null-terminated.
In the case where the length of src is less than that of n, the remainder of dest will be padded with nulls.
Not only in our fridge devoid of Dr. Pepper, the soda machine in the cafeteria has been broken all today, and now I find that the CS department's Coke closet is out of Coke!! I'm starting to get really jittery .... I NEED CAFFEINE!!
So yeah, got all the OS stuff working. Eli, Erik and Kailani are watching a movie in my room now so I decided to come down here to Blythe's. She gave me a Dr. Pepper too... Mmm.... I feel like watching a movie or something. (from the beginning)
