back from faxing housing applications at kinkos. it took forever because there was one person working, a ton of people, and the girls had decided to fold and curl their applications so much that they wouldn't go through the fax machine and we had to wait for the rest of the customers to get helped before she tried ours again and then finally decided to re-copy everything and fax that..... *sigh* But whatever.... Kinkos is cool, and Mike and Scott were there to talk to. Back now in the room watching Dead Man On Campus w/ Eli, Kailani (those two are getting cozy on the beanbag) and Mike...

I should be doing homework now (I did a little) but I got sidetracked and started playing with ActiveX stuff in MFC. Guess I need to back up ... lately a bunch of people have been mailing me asking for spell checking support in the LiveJournal client. I keep telling them, "yeah, me too, but the development kit costs $169" (why reinvent the wheel?). So, somebody suggested I ask whoever would like the feature to contribute some money for the component and when I have enough, I'll buy it and integrate it into LiveJournal.

I sent out the message last night and there was an overwhelming amount of people this morning saying they're sending checks out today, and one guy that sent me a PayPal.com payment already. Later on in the morning David Beroff mails me saying he's sending a check for the entire $169!

So, it looks like LiveJournal.com is even going to have a positive balance from this. (however, I don't intend to profit from this site yet, so I'm going to use any surplus money to pay a really good web designer to make some cool used-selectable styles LiveJournal and give the site an all-around facelift....)

Anyway, I then decided to start researching how easy it'll be to integrate this... I had to add ActiveX support to my MFC project, but that was trivial. I embedded some sample ActiveX components in LiveJournal as a test, and that works now, so I guess I'll download the WSpell trial component tonight and embed it and start playing around with it. When the money all comes in, I'll buy the component and hopefully release LiveJournal 1.2.6 for Windows with all the subject line, security, and spell checking stuff at once... (3 new major features for one release.... maybe I need to up the minor version and not just the patch level? :-P)
