sleep

I've got a ton of the features on the new LiveJournal client working, so I'm going to bed. I'll finish it up tomorrow.

Awoken

My mom woke me up this morning..... grrrr. She wants me to run errands. I'm not in a good mood when I'm woken up before 11:00 am.

Banking

Accounting and QuickBooks wear me out. Just had to write a dozen checks and do all this QuickBooks crap for my biznesses ... have to run to the bank now and deposit a bunch of crap, then go to Costco and pick up my Mexico PictureCDs. I want to program.

Back

That had to be the most boring, meaningless 3 hours of my life. Damn errands are boring. I do have my spring break Mexico pictures back now ... haven't looked at them yet. I'll upload the 3 PictureCD contents to my website shortly.

MSVC broken?

I thought this was valid C++:
    for (int i=0; ... ; ...) {
       ...
    }
    for (int i=0; ... ; ...) {
       ...
    }

I thought i went out of scope after the for block, yet MSVC says "error C2374: 'i' : redefinition; multiple initialization". Is Microsoft's compiler broken or do I not understand this correctly?

LiveJournal schtuff

The new LiveJournal for Windows client kicks ass.... plain and simple. Every reported bug has been fixed, and tons of features have been added: current mood, current music (which is optionally auto-detected from WinAMP), don't auto-format, and a bunch of other minor stuff....

But, best of all .... I just found out about PiMP ... damn Nullsoft is one cool company. I'd been looking for a free Win32 installer for a long time... the fact that it makes the .exe from a text script is just ideal.

When I release it (tonight?) I'll also update the web update client to do all the same fun stuff.

lost in the woods

Back from running. We ended up going to this big forest/park place and getting split up and getting lost. Of the 5 in our group, we mostly ran as 2 groups: Nick, Ocshner, and I in front, then Mike and Elisa in back .... we lost Mike and Elisa at one point and decided to head back to the car. On the way back I died and separated from the group. I then got lost and did several laps around the place, trying to find a person, road, or sign ..... I kept recognizing the same trees and intersections... very annoying. I finally found somebody and asked him how to get back to the parking lot, but he said he was lost too but would lead me back to the nature center where there were maps. He ran fast, very fast .... and I had to keep up with him. Got back there, then tried to head back again and took more wrong turns, doubled back on myself twice on two different trails ... thought I was going to sleep out there at one point. Finally I found a sign that pointed me towards a bridge I remembered and eventually found my way back where I expected everybody to be pissed at me, but they had all got lost too. I was only gone 15 minutes more than them ... they thought the Blair Witch had got me.

More weight loss

So, I lost another 3 pounds today. That's 6 pounds lost in 2 days .... My mom attributed the first day's loss to taking a big shit, but I don't think I've ever shit out 3 pounds before, much less 6.

Hackin' PiMP

So, PiMP has two main problems I've found.

1) It doesn't have a built-in facility to create start menu or desktop shortcuts to the installed program. There's a work-around though: I can also install another program of my own creation to be run after PiMP runs to create it... and PiMP can pass the correct arguments to my program so it'll know where to point the shortcut at. Not a big deal, I told jonathan@winamp I'd add this support to PiMP if the source could be made available. Awaiting a response.

2) I can't figure out how to change the icon of the installation program. I emailed jonathan the following: "I was wondering if it's possible to change the icon makepimp uses. I first tried to open the resulting PiMP file from makepimp in MSVC as resources and edit the icon, but upon running it, it complained that the installation file was corrupted. Nice --- you do some sort of checksum over the whole file. So, I next thought: maybe makepimp uses its own icon as the icon for the resulting installation .exe ... I changed makepimp.exe's icon, re-ran it (no corruption messages), but the icon for the new .exe file it made was still the old one .... so you've got an extra copy of that icon data somewhere in makepimp.exe. Maybe I can find it .... maybe not. Maybe you don't want people doing this? The icon's not a big issue, but I don't want to confuse users of my application by changing the icon on them all of the sudden. *shrug*"

Suggestions? Anybody know of any good binary diff programs?

bed

I'd release the new LiveJournal client tonight but I'm tired, and it's not good to do stuff when you're tired. I have to go to bed early anyway .... I have a dentist appointment tomorrow at the ass-crack of dawn, so I have to get some sleep if I'm going to wake up in time.
