Bed, I guess.

Nothing to do ..... guess I'll go to bed. Back is still being a bitch. I need to go to a chiropractor and have them fix me or something. :-/

Things to do tomorrow: call US west again (schedule a day to get the DSL hooked up in our new house), get a new debit/credit card (my magnetic strip is shot), and a bunch of other crap I forgot.

woke up to screaming cousin.
back hurts.
hope they get those russians out of the submarine. webserver is unpingable.

Dialog between myself and one of the technicians at Virtualis:

Brad: did it panic? what was the last thing displayed on the screen?
Tom: I did not not see anything special went it stopped. It may have just been a frozen webserver process.
Brad: heh ... frozen processes don't halt a multi-user OS, especially Unix derivatives. :)
Tom: Just my best guess:) I've still got a ways to go before I am a fully fledged Sys admin:)

I'm glad my servers are in good hands. *rolls eyes*

(no subject)

Ate lunch with Mike and Dan at Intel. Good stuff. Ran into my dad... he ate with us too. Went to the bank and deposited some money; went to the post office and mailed some crap. Called US West (is now Qwest) and ordered phone/DSL service to be installed on the 1st of September, the day before I move in.

Profound. Maybe today is his day! :-P

20 minutes for that?

Waited on hold calling my credit union for 20 minutes for them to tell me to come into the branch office, which I could've done in 15 minutes. The magnetic strip on my debit card is dead. They can remagnetize it I guess. So, off to do that. Today is errand day ... no real work.

Why do people try to have conversations with my on ICQ when I'm marked as away? And why do they get pissed off when I don't talk back to them? How can I talk back to them if I'm away?

Why are people stupid? Why do people send me emails like this: "Do you know where I can find a good fettish? I don't seem to like anything except women in general." *sigh*

Don't worry --- I save all my stupid stuff now in my "dumbemails" folder, which I'll later put up at or something.

"These trials will not involve lasers with sufficient power to affect the debris, as there are concerns that such high power devices might contravene the international weapons treaty banning laser weapons in space."

"You know, I have one simple request, and that is to have sharks with frickin' laser beams attached to their heads! Now, evidently, my cycloptic colleague informs me that that can't be done. Can you remind me what I pay you people for? Honestly, throw me a bone here!"

New DVDs

I found the solution to boredom.... $141.87 worth of new DVDs for my collection.... I just ordered:
  • Don't Be a Menace to South Central While Drinking Your Juice in The Hood
  • Labyrinth
  • Spaceballs
  • Outbreak
  • Hunt for Red October
  • Under Siege
I want to watch them all .... tonight. Too bad I have to wait a few days. Got them from Amazon. Kozmo can't deliver out here in the 'burb.

Thought patterns

I stray so easily.... walked downstairs, instinctively opened a web browser and clicked some news links... read slashdot, read this comment, saw "La Grange" and thought of ZZ Top... remembered my ZZ Top mp3 files are not sorted well ... decided I'd sort them. Thought about doing it from Windows, but figured since they're actually on my Linux box, I'd do it there... remembered gmc sucks, so worked again at building Nautilus. Nautilus is failing to build nautilus-rpm-view.o when linking with librpm ... can't find a dozen functions. *sigh* This is the 3rd or 4th major undocumented dependency I've run into building this bitch so far... with no configure option to disable it. Suggestions?

Where's my duct tape?

My damn cousin is screaming/crying/whatever again... throwing a temper tantrum. I need to get the hell out of here. Dan's coming over in 17 minutes (yes, seventeen, I say!) to pick me up and we're going dollar-bowlin'.

I'm going to bowl like crap tonight because my joints, muscles, and back are all still sore from ultimate frisbee. But whatever ... it'll be fun.

Bowlin' machine!

Nick --- you'd better be scared ... both my straight game and my hook game were on tonight. I rolled a 142 straight and a 106 with my hook .... the hook is still a little crappy, but with Dan's help it improved quite a bit. I won't be betting next week but you'd better watch out ... :-P
