I saw that video a couple months back... horrifying if true, but I'm not quite sure I believe its legitimacy. At any rate that zmag article is a little bogus to say the least.

Well, I'm open to believing news sources outside of Fox News and CNN a little easier than most....
Well, the article states, "British and most European television stations censored the tape off the air last night on the grounds that the pictures were too terrible to show." Presumably if the British and European television stations doubted the tape's legitimacy, they would have cited that doubt rather than the tape's graphicness as their reason for declining to broadcast it.
I don't know if this is as bad as it may seem. We know that they have taken out helicopters with rocket propelled grenades. If I was in the helicopter and they were still running between the trucks after being shot at, I could think that they could be grabbing one of these and taking me out.
The wounded guy at the end could also be moving towards the truck that is still not shot at and possible shoot back.
Though, knowing they are vastly out powered, I'm not sure if they are trying to hide behind the vehicles to be safe, or it wouldn't be smarter to just play dead.
i agree- i saw this a long time ago-
wounded people can still shoot at you, and can still use a radio.
the guy at the end was obviously crawling towards the truck to do *something*...

Yeah sure, maybe in that military situation it was called for, but it is just wrong that it can be so easy to take someone's life like that.
what do you mean- like if you're going to take someone's life you should do it more personably?
like- with your bare hands, or face to face- and not with the movement of a crosshair and the flip of a switch?

No, more broader, as in people shouldn't take other people's lives.
I find it just as upsetting that those Iraqi people got killed, as if they shot down the American helicopter...

I can see it now.
RPG takes out apache helicopter, 2 americans dead. IR footage shows that pilots had clear shot, but didnt take them for fear of media slamming.

Re: I can see it now.
yeah cuz media slamming is obviously totally stopping all kinds of shit in iraq.
The guy had just been in the explosion of a truck, and got hit by 30mm fire once already. On the ground, barely moving, I don't think he was a menace to anyone... Not really legal.
This video really doesn't look like anything but Coalition Forces doing exactly what they're supposed to be doing: killing people who are defending their homeland. I don't agree with the mission, nor do i agree with violence of nearly any sort, but this is not video of a war crime. This is simply a video of the crime that is war.
I want to see the video in context; the pilot put some serious lead into the engine block of that pickup truck, which happened to be right next to the guy he supposedly "commited a war crime against." I'm willing to bet he moved along and took out the transport and the tank next, working right to left because that's where he happened to be.
In any case, the fact that we view a killing differently when one man was running and the other was rolling is just fucked up. Making so many hot splats out of one is ok, but the other is a "war crime."

hm, i saw that a few months ago and figured it was just yet another horrible war video. wonder why zmag only got it now? maybe they've been hanging on to it to help bolster outrage...?

I wish the war would just stop... somehow... *sigh*
