dict
Whatever default server Debian uses for the "dict" command has been down for the past few days and I've been without a favorite means of looking up words.
Instead, I keep ending up instinctively clicking on my browser toolbar link for dict.leo.org, the other dictionary I end up using.
Surprisingly, search results with 3 or 4 definitions in German do just a good of job, especially when I already have a loose idea of the word.
In this case the word was "reticent" and the German words were:
schweigsam
still
verschwiegen
zurückhaltend
The 1st and 3rd didn't help me, but still and especially zurückhaltend lead me to conclude reticent was "held back" or "reserved" or "quiet".
Good enough.
(reticent was in the Tivo description of some movie Dina recorded...)
