Brad learning to fire a gun, is this a good thing?

I didn't know running LJ was such a dangerous thing :P

Sick man, real sick.

Now topping the list of things that disturb me: gun-toting LJ employees. I think the abuse team just needs to send that picture of Gambrell to anyone that threatens to sue, shut down, or otherwise harm LJ.

I have impressive looking guns.. Whitaker and my .45 look the coolest... Though James Bond would be pissed if he saw the picture of gambrell holding the PPK with a flower in his hair.. :)

I'd have to agree. I can't believe that someone who owns a firearm would even consider firring it OVER THE CREST OF A HILL!

They are damn lucky nobody came up the other side of the hill to investigate. Considering the size of the rifle I bet it would have the power to send a bullet flying for miles before gravity smacked it into earth. Newton says bullets don't stop until something makes them, they don't disapear, if you fire one over the top of a hill it'll keep going until it hits something. Everytime a bullet went over the top of the stump (even if you hit the can) you ran the risk of hitting something you really didn't want to. One of the first rules of shooting is to make sure that if you miss your first target you hit the other target.

As far as I can tell you leard how to fire a gun, not how to shoot.

In some fairness to the rest of the guys, they did say you're not supposed to aim at things up high, and they told me how bullets can go for miles, showed me all the gun safety features, tips, holding it, etc.

I think a disproportionate number of the pictures show us shooting at cans atop the stump, but after that was pointed out, we placed them lower. (I volunteered to set the targets at first because I didn't want to shoot right away.... then I stole Whitaker's camera and took some pics I think of my lovely targets)

The direction we were shooting though was barren of any towns, campgrounds, trails, for many, many miles. So while it was unsafe, it wasn't as unsafe as it looks, and we didn't shoot like that for long.

I'm glad the guys did go through all that stuff but it makes me even more anoyed that they let you setup the targets and then start shooting at them knowing that what they were doing was dangerous. When you went out to set them up they should have told you to place them so near the foot of the incline so that people wouldn't be shooting over the top.

As for that last paragraph. *shakes head*. You were out there. If you were there that means that people are there. Whats to say someone else wasn't out there doing something similar? It only takes ONE person/animal to be somewhere that you didn't expect to make it as unsafe as it looks. Out of curiosity what made you stop shooting that way? Did someone pipe up and say that it wasn't safe and that you should move the targets? or did you just run out of things to hit?

Sorry for beeing all lecture like but I would hate if someone got hurt.

As for that last paragraph. *shakes head*. You were out there.

Picture in your head:

The only highway in those parts runs west-east. We turned north off onto a logging road and went up a couple miles. Once we get up there, there's a trail that goes west-east again. We were shooting north-north-west, out into the middle of a forest. So we weren't shooting towards or along the trail.

Which is why I said it was probably unsafe, but not as unsafe as it could've been, considering the geography.

Firing guns without a backstop is the least of their problems, IMHO.

Some context: I make fun of Whitaker for being a "gun freak". That is, owning a gun at all. I'm pretty much against them.

So when I told him I picture him going home at the end of the day, sitting in a crap chair, drinking scotch, and scratching his dick with his gun, he thought it'd be funny to take a picture of just that.

He never keeps the gun loaded in his apartment, thank god.

I'm not contesting how funny it is, I almost pee'd myself laughing. No, I was more concerned that his nut was hanging out in the picture and he was sharing it with the entirity of the int0rw3b.

My .40 is a Sig 229 like whitakers.. The .45 was a kimber subcompact.. You can see whitaker shooting it by the skeleton hammer (and one pic with the extended 10 round mag).

I carry the kimber at work because its compact, and has a single stack mag so its more slender.. Though ive had it jam a few times, but I dont know if it was shitty cheap ammo or what.. My sig has never given me one ounce of problems.
